Chapter 1-8 : Let’s Make A Futon! (Part 3)

「Yosh! This is my thanks!」(Sarasa)

I gave Lorea-san the remaining cloth.
I think it was enough to make another futon.

Even if she wouldn’t use it to make a futon and just wanted to use it as a sheet or bed cover, the function of the environment control should still work.
So, I thought it would be useful for her.

「But, are you sure? A beautiful cloth like this is quite expensive, you know?」(Lorea)

「Don’t worry, don’t worry. Ah, by the way, this cloth is an artifact. It’s an environment adjusting cloth. So, I recommend you to use it on your bed. You will have a good sleep using it.」(Sarasa)

「Eeh!? Artifact!? That would be even more expensive….. Are you really sure…?」(Lorea)

「Geez. I’m 1000% sure! So don’t worry about that. Consider it as a token of our friendship」(Sarasa)

I tapped her shoulder, trying to treat her as a friend.

It’s okay, right? We are friends now, right? Right!?

「Well, then. I’ll gratefully receive it. Thank you very much, Sarasa-san!」(Lorea)

Lorea-san happily thanked me.
Of course, with a cute smile!

She didn’t deny that we’re now friends. Yosh! Nice, nice!

Well, I think she was just so happy with the cloth and excited to use it though.

「Ah, if i’m not mistaken, this artifact can control the temperature automatically, right? If I make a dress with this, then it will be comfortable to wear.」(Lorea)

「Hmm. This cloth is not suitable to use for clothes. Well, it’s not meaningless to make clothes with this, but the effect will be weak.」(Sarasa)

This cloth worked based on the environmental magical power and magical power that slightly leaked from the sleeping body of the user, so the effect wasn’t that strong.
Otherwise, I wouldn’t bother to stuff a lot of cotton into my futon.

Well, I can make an environment adjusting cloth with a strong effect, but it requires a lot more cost, and also, it requires a lot of magical power to work.
Therefore, on the contrary, an environment adjusting cloth with strong effect is not recommended to be used as a futon, because… you want to sleep, but you will be more tired because a lot of your magical power is being sucked by the cloth. It doesn’t make sense, right?

「Ah, so that’s how it works. I see.」(Lorea)

「By the way, Lorea-san, I know I bought a lot of cotton from your store, but do you still have some in stock?」(Sarasa)

「Yes. Well, there’s not that much, but if you want to buy the same amount as yesterday, I think there will be enough.」(Lorea)

「Then I’ll go buy some again soon. I want to make cushions next.」(Sarasa)

「Okay! But… buying a lot of cotton, huh…? I can’t even buy this much cotton with my pocket money… Sarasa-san, I bet you get a lot of pocket money」(Lorea)

Lorea-san looked impressed, but…
Wait, wait…

「Umm, Lorea-san? I’m an adult, you know? I’m working, you know?」(Sarasa)

Even though it was a part-time job, I once worked at Master’s store, and I think my wages can’t be compared to Lorea-san’s pocket money that she got from helping her parent’s store.

「A-ah! That’s right! I forgot, sorry. After spending time with you, I feel like we are about the same age, so…」(Lorea)

「Lorea-san… how old are you now?」(Sarasa)

「I’m 13. I’ll be 14 soon」(Lorea)

…..Eh?

I glanced at her chest for a second.

So… she’s 2 years younger than me…?

Ughh…

「H, Hee~ You grew so fast.」(Sarasa)

「Is that so? To be honest, I think I’m a little slower compared to my friends though.」

Said Lorea-san innocently, without any ill will.

Ahh… I see now.

Unlike this village, I lived in a royal capital with many people of the same age.
I didn’t realize that I grew a little slower than other people, because there were many girls who had the same ‘size’ as mine even though we are at the same age.

Un. Don’t worry, me! You just grow a little slower. Just a LITTLE slower.

Un, Un. I’m still in my growth period!
It’s probably just my imagination that I haven’t grown at all since last year.
Yes. It’s just my imagination.

「What about you, Sarasa-san?」(Lorea)

「Me? I’m 15」(Sarasa)

「Heeー I see」(Lorea)

Hm? Lorea-san?
I feel like she glanced at my chest for a second.

If she obviously stared at my chest, then she is my enemyー No, I can’t afford to lose my new friend over this stupid matter.

I smiled at her to sweep away my black emotions.

After that, we talked about various things until the sun went down.

◇ ◇ ◇

The next day.

The amount of cloth and cotton that had been reduced greatly to make a futon yesterday, somehow, returned to the original amount as yesterday. No, it was actually a lot more than yesterday.

Well, there was nothing strange happening though.

This morning, Lorea-san’s father came with a lot of cloth and cotton.
He gave them to me.

After seeing the beautiful cloth that I gave Lorea-san yesterday, it seemed that Lorea-san’s father, who was a merchant, realized its value.

He said, “This cloth is too much for just paying my daughter to help you for half a day,” forcefully handing me the cloth and cotton that he brought.

Surely, the cloth I made was more expensive than this cloth and cotton, but I gave it to Lorea-san as thanks, so her father didn’t have to mind it actually.

By the way, Lorea-san used that cloth as sheets for three people:
Both of her parents and herself.

Her father also thanked me because he slept comfortably last night.

I’m glad that something I made was useful to them.

Alright then. Since I got another bolt of cloth, I want to dye it a different color.

Thanks to the bright-colored bed Geberg-san made, and the sky blue futon, my room was less gloomy than before.
I could still improve it by changing the curtains and making some cushions, tho.

Dyeing is easy.
The hard part is to determine the color.
I have to think about the color balance because I want to make it well coordinated.

Since I got my own house, I want to make it as beautiful as possible!

Maybe I will make curtains first.

But… umm…
If I don’t open the store as soon as possible, I would run out of money…

「The inside of the house is good enough for now, so today. Let’s check the outside」

I had only investigated the house roughly yesterday, so I had to properly check it piece by piece.

First, the roof.
If it was damaged, it could be fatal for a house, but… hmm, it looks fine.

It seems that the metal plate thatched on the surface was strengthened using alchemy, and it was stronger than I expected.
I think it will be just fine for a long time.

Next is the outer wall.
There’s basically no problem with the outer wall, but there were some parts that should be repaired a little.
I will ask Geberg-san to fix it in the near future.

And then the signboard.
It was tilted and damaged, so I should ask Geberg-san about this as well.

And finallyー the front yard, huh…

「Uhh… The main problem is the tall grasses and the rotten fences.」

I don’t think there will be any problems even without fences.

Ah, no. Maybe it’s better to have fences after all?
It would be bad if there were wild animals entering the yard.

Dealing with these grasses wouldn’t be a problem actually, because I could just mow them all with magic.

But…

There were herbs mixed in this yard…

If I cut them with magic, it would damage them.

Should I ignore them and cut them all?

No… There’s no way poor people like me can ignore money on the ground.

「…..Alright. For now, let’s make a list what to do」

・Open the store
・Make products to sell in the store
・Do something with the fence
・Clean the front and backyard
・Make a pulley so I can draw water from the well easier
・Operate the bath
・Make a magic stove so I can cook

「Un. I think that’s about it. And now, I have to decide which I should do first…」

    1. Actually it’s not. It’s the average amount of work for just 1 person where I live. If you want to live well and comfortably, you need to do even more.
