Chapter 1-6 : Going To The Merchant Guild (part 2)
「Whoaaa…!!」(Kako)
The town inside the gate was truly like a different world.
The buildings were unique. They were made of wood and brick.
There were so many food stalls selling food I had never seen before along the edge of the main streets.
As a matter of course, there were so many people here. They were wearing unique outfits like those from fantasy games.
Some people were wearing armor and carrying weapons such as swords and spears.
There were also people wearing robes carrying staff. They seemed to be magicians.
However, the ones that made this town look like a fantasy world the most were the people who clearly didn’t look like humans.
「Aa! Those pointy ears! She must be an elf! And that short man must be a dwarf!」(Kako)
There was an incredibly beautiful female elf and a muscular male dwarf shorter than me passing by in front of us.
They glared at me and frowned when I spontaneously shouted, unable to hold my excitement.
Woops… I should be more careful next time…
Apart from elves and dwarves, there were also other races in this town such as beastmen who had animal ears on their heads, and lizardmen whose entire bodies were covered in scales.
「Kuuhh~! I really feel like I’m inside a game! This is awesome!」(Kako)
I was a bit angry at Nyat and the gatekeeper for treating me like a child, but I felt like my anger had completely disappeared after I saw the beautiful scenery of this town.
「Kako, pay attention to your surroundings or you will get lost-nya.」(Nyat)
「I know. Don’t worry. I’m an adult after all!」(Kako)
「Nyahaha! Of course-nya. However, let me do the talking while we are in the merchant guild-nya.」(Nyat)
「Eh? That will be helpful, but…」(Kako)
「You still don’t know how things work in this town-nya. I think you should watch me and learn how to handle things first-nya.」(Nyat)
「Ah… Alright then.」(Kako)
I feel like he’s treating me like a child again, but… I think he’s got a point.
I don’t know anything about this world, so I better learn when I still have the chance.
After walking down the main street for a while, I found a large building with the picture of a coin on its signboard.
「This must be the merchant guild.」(Kako)
「It is-nya」(Nyat)
It was completely bigger than the surrounding buildings. It was about the same size as a supermarket in Japan.
However, because the entire building was made of wood, it looked like a historical building from the Meiji era.
「Let’s go inside and make some money-nya!」(Nyat)
While I was still observing the building, Nyat quickly passed through the double-sided door and entered the building.
「Hey, wait for me!」(Kako)
Aa-ahh, he doesn’t know how awesome this building is for an outworlder like me…
Following Nyat, I hurriedly entered the building.
There was a large hall inside with several reception desks, tables, chairs, and people who were chatting with each other.
The interior looked like a stylish, rustic-themed cafe or something like that.
「Welcome to the merchant guild. How can I help you?」(female employee)
While I was looking around, wondering what I should do, a female employee who seemed to be in her late twenties approached us.
「This girl wants permission to sell her products-nya.」(Nyat)
「Understood.」(female employee)
She nodded at us and took us to one of the reception desks.
She then took out a piece of paper and a quill from the drawer and put them on the desk.
「Please fill this document with your name, race, and the products you sell or produce.」(female employee)
「Umm… That’s it? You don’t need my address, age, and family register?」(Kako)
I couldn’t help but ask after seeing the extremely simple format of the document.
It was totally different from when I opened my bank account in Japan.
「Please pardon me, but you guys are travelers, right?」(female employee)
「Eh?」(Kako)
I wasn’t sure what to answer.
I haven’t bought a house in this world, so that makes me a traveler…?
「Just tell her that we are travelers-nya.」(Nyat)
Seeing my puzzled face, Nyat brought her face closer to mine and whispered.
「Alright.」(Kako)
I nodded and turned my face to the receptionist onee-chan again.
「Yeah, we are travelers.」(Kako)
「If you are a resident of this town, we might need your address, but since you are a traveler, you don’t need to write it. You don’t have to write your age either because it could be confusing sometimes. After all, there are so many people with different races where the apparent age and adulthood age vary depending on the race.」(female employee)
「What about the family register?」(Kako)
「As for family registers, normally, the towns and villages in this country don’t issue family registers for their residents.」(female employee)
「I see…」(Kako)
「Therefore, you don’t need to provide us with your detailed information. Your name is more than enough. You can even fill it with your fake name if you want.」(female employee)
「Hee…」(Kako)
Is it really okay to fill this important document with a fake name…?
「All you will get is only the permission to sell your products in this town after all. Nothing less, nothing more. Therefore if you make trouble while doing business in this town, you will be punished without the guild backing you up, and you won’t be able to do business anymore in this town. In the worst-case scenario, you might be arrested as a criminal. Once you get the license, you are free to sell your products and make money in this town, but please don’t cause any trouble.」(female employee)
「U, Understood.」(Kako)
So I can keep making money as long as I don’t make trouble.
Doing business in this world seems to be not bound by strict rules like when you’re doing business in Japan, but it seems that the law won’t protect you here, so I need to be careful.
「Umm, about the product I can sell, am I only allowed to sell the products I list in this document?」(Kako)
「No, you can sell products that you haven’t listed in the document if you want. You don’t even have to make a list of your products in this document. However, if you do, it will be easier for the guild to introduce you to the customers who need your products. It will also help you secure customers, so I recommend you make a list of your products and sell only the products on your list. I suggest you write as much detail as possible about your products. If you have new products to sell, you can come again to update the list.」(female employee)
「I see. So, it’s like search engines in commerce websites.」(Kako)
「Search engines…?」(female employee)
「Aaa! D, Don’t mind what I said… Hehe.」(Kako)
「I don’t know what you are talking about but it seems that you understand how it works.」(female employee)
「Yeah, I understand now.」(Kako)
Anyway, I have a variety of medical herbs and aromatic herbs in my bag. I should put them all on the list for now.
I can come again if I have new items to sell.
Alright. Now is the time to fill out the document.
Thanks to the goddess, I’m able to read and write this world’s letters without needing to learn them.
