Chapter 1-3 : Skill Selection Ⅱ

 

「The last two skill categories are Production Skills and Supplementary Skills. I don’t plan to take any crafting skills since I want to focus on building my character as a fighter. How about you two?」(Shougo)

「Hmm… I don’t think I need any crafting skills either, so I think I’ll pass. How about you, Arisa?」(Suzu)

「Umm…」(Arisa)

Of course, I’m going to learn cooking skill, but let’s see if there are other Production Skills that I might want to learn.

I turned my gaze toward the tablet and scrolled down.

There are so many skills in this category.

【Cooking】, 【Blacksmithing】, 【Woodworking】, 【Compounding】, 【Sewing】, 【Brewing】, 【Synthesis】, 【Alchemy】, 【Goldsmithing】, 【Cultivating】, 【Tool Mastery】, 【Carpentry】, and 【Mansory】.

There are some skills that I don’t know, for example,【Brewing】.

Is it a skill to brew tea or make beer?

While wondering, I tapped the【Brewing】section and expanded the description below.

It seems that this is a fermentation-related skill. Does that mean I can make fermented food ingredients with this skill? If so, I think I will learn this skill too.

「I think I will learn 【Cooking】and 【Brewing】.」(Arisa)

「Fufu. As expected. I had a feeling you would learn those skills.」(Suzu)

「Hehe~ Let’s see the next category. Supplementary Skills, was it? Are there any good skills?」(Arisa)

「Of course. There’s a subcategory called Status-Buffing Skills where you can increase certain stats of your character. There are also some useful non-combat skills like【Fishing】and【Horse-Riding】.」(Shougo)

「I see. What kind of Status-Buffing Skills do you recommend?」(Arisa)

「Well, it depends on your playstyle and how you are going to build your character. First of all, which stats are you going to focus on?」(Shougo)

In NWO, each character has ten stats:

HP (Hit Points)

MP (Mana Points)

STR (Strength)

ATK (Attack Power)

DEF (Defense)

INT (Intelligence)

MRES (Magic Resistance)

AGI (Agility)

DEX (Dexterity)

LUK (Luck)

Since I’m going to be a close-combat type fighter, I think I should focus on HP, ATK, DEF, and AGI, but… I’m not sure. This is a tough decision.

「Hmm… Say, SuzuSuzu, how about you?」(Arisa)

「Since I’m aming to be a witch-type character, I’m going to focus on MP, INT, and MRES. I will put some remaining stat points on HP too.」(Suzu)

「I see…」(Arisa)

「Arisa, if you still can’t decide, try imagining what kind of character you want to play.」(Shougo)

「Character I want to play, huh…?」(Arisa)

「For example, if you want to be a quick fighter like a ninja, you can be an ATK-AGI type which has high mobility and power. If you want to be a close-range fighter with devastating power in every hit, you can focus on ATK and STR. If you want to be a tank, you can focus on HP, DEF, and MRES.」(Shougo)

「I see. Hmm…」(Arisa)

I folded my arms and thought.

Since I’m going to use a wakizashi as my main weapon, I think a quick hit-and-run playstyle will fit me well.

In that case, I will need some AGI and DEX so I can move quickly and ATK for offensive power.

Alright. Now, I can imagine what kind of character I want to play.

As for the other Supplementary Skills… Ugh… There are soooo many skills in this category. It will take a while to decide…

After thinking and discussing with Shougo and Suzu for a while, I finally decided what skills I wanted to learn first.

For Weapon Mastery Skills, I’m going to learn【Sword Mastery】.

For Production Skills, as a matter of course, I’m going to learn 【Cooking】. I want to cook the monsters I hunt myself after all.

For Supplementary Skills, I decided to learn 【ATK Boost】, 【AGI Boost】, 【DEX Boost】, 【Gathering】, 【Perception】, 【Stealth】, 【Appraisal】, and 【Storage】.

I wanted to learn 【Dark Magic】, 【Earth Magic】and 【Brewing】 at first, but a new player can only pick ten skills at the beginning, and I found that some Supplementary Skills are more useful for early game.

For example,【Perception】and【Stealth】will help me hunt monsters safely.

【Gathering】and 【Appraisal】will help me gather precious items in the game.

【Storage】is unexpectedly a useful skill. Since we can use an item box for free, I thought it wasn’t necessary at first, but with this skill, you can store much more items.

First of all, there is a limit on how much weight an item box can hold based on your STR. The higher your STR point, the more weight your item box can hold.

Since I don’t want to spend my stat points on STR, I decided to learn【Storage】instead so that I can gather food ingredients and other materials without worrying about the weight limit.

Of course, the weight limit will still exist even if you learn【Storage】, but it doubles the amount if you learn it, and it will increase as you level up the skill.

「Alright. Since we have decided what skills we want to learn, all we have to do is to wait for the game to release.」(Shougo)

「We will meet up on the second day, right?」(Suzu)

「Yeah. You can gather information or hunt some monsters until then.」(Shougo)

「Ahh~ I wonder what the food in the game tastes like~」(Arisa)

「Arisa, if you find any good restaurant, let me know, okay?」(Suzu)

「Okay~」(Arisa)

「Oh, right. Arisa, let me tell you in advance. Don’t follow strangers even if they lure you with food, you understand?」(Suzu)

「Now that you mention it, Arisa would likely follow anyone for food.」(Shougo)

「Hey, you guys think I’m like a child who can be lured with candy!?」(Arisa)

「Yup.」(Suzu)

「Yeah.」(Shougo)

「Uuu… Alright. I’ll be careful…」(Arisa)

「That’s my girl~」(Suzu)

「Hehe~」(Arisa)

Suzu stroked my head and smiled at me. She completely treated me like a child, but it didn’t feel bad at all.

「And Shougo, you too. You shouldn’t follow around any pretty girl you find in the game if you don’t want to get into trouble.」(Suzu)

「H, Huuh!? Why would I do that!? Do you think I’m a playboy or something!?」(Shougo)

「Did you forget about your fifth ーno, sixth girlfriend? Who was her name again? The one who ditched you after she saw you gazing passionately at another girl during your date.」(Suzu)

「Gaaahhh!! Don’t remind me of her!!」(Shougo)

「Fufu. Suzu, you shouldn’t bully Shougo too much… *yawn* Fwaaaahhhh~」(Arisa)

Unable to resist the sleepiness, I suddenly yawned and put my head on Suzu’s shoulder.

「Ara~ Arisa, are you sleepy?」(Suzu)

「Yeah, a bit…」(Arisa)

「Uwahh… I just realized it’s getting late already.」(Suzu)

Suzu was a bit surprised when she looked at the clock on Shougo’s tablet.

It’s already past eight o’clock in the evening.

「Ugh, I have a lecture at the university tomorrow morning.」(Suzu)

「Me too…」(Arisa)

「Then you guys should go home now. I’ll see you tomorrow.」(Shougo)

「Yeah. Come on, Arisa. I’ll take you home.」(Suzu)

「Thank you, SuzuSuzu~」(Arisa)

It was getting late, so Suzu and I decided to leave Shougo’s house.

I had dinner as soon as I got home and then took a bath.

I lost in thought while soaking in the hot bath water.

I was imagining myself adventuring in the world of NWO, and of course, I was also wondering about the food I would be eating on the first day of release. I can’t wait for it!
