Chapter 1-2 : Skill Selection Ⅰ (part 2)
「Hmm… I think I’m going to learn【Sword Mastery】.」(Arisa)
「Oh? And the reason isー」(Shougo)
「Because I will need a knife to cook.」(Arisa)
「Uhh..」(Shougo)
As soon as I answered, Shougo tilted his head.
Did I just say something weird?
「【Sword Mastery】 indeed allows you to use any sword-type weapon. Weapons that have a handle and a blade that is longer than the handle, including a knife. But… does that mean you want to become a chef in the future?」(Shougo)
「Nope. I’m planning to become a fighter, of course. It’s not that I plan to be a chef or something.」(Arisa)
「I see. So, you choose【Sword Mastery】so that you can use a knife, but what about your main weapon?」(Shougo)
「A sword, obviously.」(Arisa)
「I mean, what kind? There are many types of swords like Japanese swords and Western swords. Daggers can also be an option.」(Shougo)
「Certainly, Japanese swords and Western swords are different… Hmm…」(Arisa)
「By the way, after you level up your【Sword Mastery】to a certain level, you will have access to the skill tree which allows you to level up the branch skills based on the type of sword you choose. As I said earlier, it will take a long time if you level up multiple skills, so I think you should focus on one for starters.」(Shougo)
「So, I should decide which weapon I want to use and level up the branch skills based on that weapon, huh?」(Arisa)
「That’s right. You can change your mind and try a different type of sword, but as I said, it will cost you time cause you have to level up another from level 1 again. Well, you still can use a different type of sword, but you won’t do much damage since your skill level is still low.」(Shougo)
「I see.」(Arisa)
I want to play as a DPS, so I can’t sacrifice my damage just because I want to try another weapon.
If I had all the time in the world, I might level up various skills and try every type of weapon available in the game, but I’m a student and I can’t play games all the time.
As Shougo said, I better decide my weapon now and focus on leveling its branch skills.
I wonder how many types of swords are available in this game.
I turned my gaze to the tablet on the table and tapped the【Sword Mastery】 button to expand it.
There are so many types of swords I can use such as steel swords, claymores, great swords, long swords, rapiers, saber swords, curved swords, cleavers, daggers, knives, ect. There are also Japanese swords such as tachi, katana, wakizashi, and tanto.
「There are so many options… Which one do you guys think fits me the most?」(Arisa)
「How about a great sword? You will look badass with one on your back!」(Shougo)
「Huh? Are you crazy? That weapon won’t fit my cute little Arisa. It’s not a light novel about a little girl carrying a huge sword twice her size, you know?」(Suzu)
「Uhh, I don’t think I can handle a huge weapon either. Suzu, you have any suggestion?」(Arisa)
「How about a rapier? Unlike other swords, you use thrust attacks with this type of sword. I’m sure it will look elegant on you!」(Suzu)
「Hmm… I’m not sure if I like it…」(Arisa)
This is so confusing, but… I kinda like Japanese swords. They remind me of my favorite samurai anime back when I was little.
Anyway, I think I should ask these two the same question. Their choices could be a reference for me.
「Forget about me. Have you guys decided your main weapon?」(Arisa)
「I can’t decide between a spear and a sword, but… Hmm… I think I’ll go with a long sword. I kinda like warrior-type characters after all.」(Shougo)
「As for me, I want to be a witch, so I will learn【Blunt Weapon Mastery】that allows me to use a magic staff.」(Suzu)
「A warrior and a witch. I see. I think those jobs fit you two very well.」(Arisa)
「Right~?」(Suzu)
So they both have decided what weapons they will use.
I turned my gaze to the tablet again and looked at the list of Japanese swords. It caught my attention for some reason.
Should I use a Japanese sword?
Based on the length they were roughly divided into four types: tachi, katana, wakizashi, and tanto.
I don’t want a sword that is too long, but I don’t want one that is too short either, so…
「I think I will use a wakizashi.」(Arisa)
「A wakizashi, huh?」(Shougo)
「I think that’s a great choice! It will fit very well with you! Aahh~ I can’t wait to see Arisa in kimono-type armor fighting monsters with a wakizashi like a young, cute Japanese warrior~ She will look so adorable! Uhehe~」(Suzu)
Suzu put her hands on her cheeks and started daydreaming.
「Ooi~ Earth to Suzu. Earth to Suzu. Please come back~… Hahh… Leave her aside, let’s take a look at the next one.」(Shougo)
「Un.」(Arisa)
After I nodded to him, Shougo scrolled down his tablet and stopped at the Magic Skills page.
There are seven elements of magic in this game: fire, water, earth, wind, lighting, darkness, and light.
There’s also an explanation about each magic element.
Fire Magic allows you to produce fire and cause continuous damage to your enemies.
Water Magic allows you to manipulate water and change it into various shapes.
Earth Magic allows you to manipulate the ground and the terrain.
Wind Magic allows you to manipulate the surrounding air and turn it into a deadly weapon.
Lighting Magic allows you to summon lighting with a high penetrating damage.
Dark Magic allows you to apply debuffs to your enemies and gives you advantages in battles.
Lastly, Light Magic allows you to use recovery and buff spells to heal and power up your allies.
There’s also an explanation about how each element reacts to each other. It looks like thisー
Fire => Wind => Lightning => Earth => Water => Fire
*/ => means “is strong against”.
Other than that, light and darkness cancel each other.
「Suzu is obviously going to get some magic skills, right? But, Shougo, will you spend your skill points on magic skills?」(Arisa)
「Hmm… I plan to become a normal swordsman rather than a magic swordsman, so I don’t think I’m gonna waste my skill points on it.」(Shougo)
「Magic is fun, you know? I think I’m going to learn lighting and wind magic!」(Suzu)
「Oh, look who just came back to her senses. Why lighting and wind, though?」(Shougo)
「Lighting and wind can work together. I might be able to create a thunderstorm and a huge tornado! That would be super awesome!」(Suzu)
Somehow, I can imagine Suzu in a black witch robe summoning a storm and tornado to wipe out a swarm of monsters while flying in the sky and laughing like a villainess.
「Arisa, how about you?」(Suzu)
「Honesty, I want to be able to use some magic spells, but I wonder which elements I should choose.」(Arisa)
Fire is kinda dangerous and I don’t like hot, so I won’t waste my skill points on fire magic skills for sure.
Since Suzu has already taken the lightning and wind, it will be a bit awkward if I take those elements too.
Light element specialized in healing and buffing allies. It sounds kinda troublesome, so I’ll pass on this one too.
The rest is water, earth, and darkness.
Water is not bad, but I think I kinda like earth and darkness more.
「I think I will learn earth magic and dark magic.」(Arisa)
「I see. Not a bad choice. If you want to use magic, you better learn two types of elements so that you can handle most enemies. Anyway, let’s continue.」(Shougo)
After we nodded at him, Shougo scrolled down his tablet and moved on to the next item on the list.
