Chapter 1-50 : The Girl Visits The Adventurer Guild For The First Time (part 1)
Returning to the royal capital, Elle and Ingrid went straight to the adventurer guild since they didn’t want to waste any more time.
「So this is the adventurer guild.」(Elle)
「Yeah. It’s been a while since the last time I visited this place. Hahh…」(Ingrid)
「Are you nervous?」(Elle)
「Just a little.」(Ingrid)
They were standing in front of a big stone building with a wooden signboard saying, “Adventurer Guild (Porcelain Blue Branch)”.
There were many people of various races who seemed to be adventurers coming in and out of the building. Most of them were carrying weapons, such as swords, spears, bows, and magic staves.
Most of them were adults, but there were also some young adventurers. However, there were none who were as young as Elle.
「Let’s get inside.」(Ingrid)
「I’m following you.」(Elle)
After putting the hood of her cloak on her head, Ingrid nervously approached the building and passed through the entrance with Elle following her from behind.
「Oi, you see her? Doesn’t she look familiar?」
「No way… Isn’t she that lone wolf dark elf woman?」
「I can’t see her face clearly, but I know that figure.」
「There’s no doubt about it. It’s her.」(adventurer)
Ingrid was hiding her face with her hood, trying to be as low profile as possible, but some adventurers in the hall seemed to recognize her.
「Umm, Ingrid. I think they’re talking about you.」(Elle)
「Ugh… I know…」(Ingrid)
Ingrid rarely worked with others when she was an adventurer, but she was quite well-known due to her strength back then.
She pinched her hood to cover her face more and looked down as she walked toward the reception desk, trying as best as she could not to make eye contact with anyone.
Still, the adventurers who realized who she was didn’t stop talking about her.
「I thought she had quit being an adventurer. Why did she come here?」
「Have you read the announcement? Seems like the black wyvern that the government has been hunting for two years has been killed by someone.」
「What!? That troublesome wyvern!? Wait, so you’re saying that she’s the one who killed it?」
「I’m not sure, but don’t you think the timing is too good?」
「You may be right… By the way, who is the girl with her?」
「I don’t know, but she doesn’t look like her child.」(adventurers)
Not just Ingrid, Elle also averted her gaze as she noticed that they were also talking about her.
Luckily for them, there were no people queueing in front of the reception desk, so Ingrid could talk with the receptionist right away.
「Welcome to the adventurer guild! Or should I say, “Welcome back”, Ingrid-san~?」(receptionist lady)
The kind-looking receptionist lady knew Ingrid and greeted her with a smile.
Ingrid then replied to her with an awkward grin.
「Haha… I’m not here to work as an adventurer again, you know…」(Ingrid)
「Fufu. Is that so? But according to the guild’s record, your most recent activity was completing the quest from the government, which is killing the black wyvern just a few hours ago.」(receptionist lady)
「Yeah, but we killed it not because I wanted to complete the quest, but we killed it because it tried to kill us!」(Ingrid)
「”We”?」(receptionist lady)
「That’s right. I came to talk about that. The guild decided to promote me to Trois Rank, but it was because you guys thought I killed the black wyvern by myself, right?」(Ingrid)
「That’s correct. Since you don’t belong to any adventurer party, and we received the information from your guild card that you killed the black wyvern without any other adventurers around, it’s natural that we would have such a guess. But… Do you want to say that we guessed it wrong?」(receptionist lady)
「Yeah. I didn’t kill it by myself. This girl helped me.」(Ingrid)
「This young lady…?」(receptionist lady)
The receptionist lady looked at Elle with a somewhat disbelieving expression, but instead of feeling offended, Elle responded with a bow and greeting.
「Hello, my name is Elle. It’s nice to meet you.」(Elle)
「Ara~ What a polite young lady. It’s nice to meet you too, Elle-chan~」(receptionist lady)
Seeing how polite Elle was, the receptionist lady smiled at her. She then returned her gaze to Ingrid.
「So, Ingrid-san, you worked together with Elle-chan to kill the black wyvern. Is that correct?」(receptionist lady)
「That’s right.」(Ingrid)
「I see. I’ve seen many young adventurers during my time as an adventurer guild employee, but it’s rare to see someone as young as Elle-chan.」(receptionist lady)
「She may be young, but she’s a talented girl. Anyway, since I didn’t kill the wyvern alone, I want you guys to reevaluate my performance value and cancel my promotion.」(Ingrid)
「Ah, I see now. So that’s your reason for coming here, other than collecting the reward money. But are you sure about that?」(receptionist lady)
「I’m one hundred percent sure. You know that I’m now working as a magic tool engineer, right? I don’t want my adventurer rank to hinder my current job.」(Ingrid)
「Understandable. No one wants to become a government’s dog if it’s not for money after all.」(receptionist lady)
「O, oi… Is that okay for a guild receptionist to say that…?」(Ingrid)
「Fufu~ As long as no one can hear it~」(receptionist lady)
Saying that, the receptionist lady put her index finger on her lips and grinned.
Unlike the other receptionists Elle had met so far, this lady didn’t seem to be a stiff kind of person.
「Anyway, this matter is too big for me to handle, so, Ingrid-san, you need to talk with the guild master.」(receptionist lady)
「Aa-ahh… I knew it… I don’t really want to see him if possible, but it can’t be helped…」(Ingrid)
「Oh, please don’t say that. I’m sure he really wants to meet you~ Well then, would you please wait in the drawing room? I’ll tell him you’re expecting him there.」(receptionist lady)
「Alright, thanks. Let’s go, Elle.」(Ingrid)
「Un.」(Elle)
The receptionist lady guided Ingrid and Elle through the back door and took them to the drawing room. She then went to the guild master’s office to tell him about them.
There were two sofas, a table, and a big shelf filled with books in the drawing room. Not long after Elle and Ingrid took a seat, sitting side by side on one of the sofas, another female guild employee came to serve tea and sweets.
「Thank you.」(Elle)
She replied to Elle with a nod and left the room.
Immediately after she left, Elle and Ingrid started drinking the tea and eating the sweets. They were thirsty and hungry after fighting the black wyvern.
About five minutes later, while they were enjoying their tea, the door was opened and a man entered the room.
He seemed to be in his fifties. He had a big, muscular body and a large scar that extended diagonally on his face from his forehead to his chin.
This man, who had an overwhelming aura and looked like a veteran mercenary, seemed to be the guild master.
He grinned as soon as his eyes met Ingrid’s.
