Magic Stone Workshop 1-49 part 2

Chapter 1-49 : The Girl And The Dark Elf Are Fighting The Black Wyvern (part 2)

「We were saved thanks to these light fairies, but how can we defeat this black wyvern?」(Elle)

「Seems like it’s underestimating us because we don’t look like strong enemies to it. Elle, I have a plan. I’ll only say it briefly once, so listen carefully.」(Ingrid)

「Un.」(Elle)

Ingrid seemed to have come up with a strategy. She bowed down and whispered to Elle, explaining what was on her mind quickly.

「Can you do it?」(Ingrid)

「I will try, but, Ingrid, are you sure? It will put you in danger.」(Elle)

「Well, it’s been a long time since I fought a dangerous monster like this, but you don’t have to worry about me. You just have to focus on doing your part with your ‘new partner’.」(Ingrid)

「Alright. I’ll do my best.」(Elle)

「Good. ーSuuuuuhaaaaaーー *breathing deeply*」(Ingrid)

Ingrid took a deep breath and did a quick warm-up, stretching her arms and legs.

She then prepared her bow and dashed to the side, leaving the light barrier.

「Over here, you dumb lizard!」(Ingrid)

By shouting and shooting an arrow at the black wyvern, Ingrid successfully drew its attention as intended.

The black wyvern quickly spat out miasma breath to repel the magic arrow flying toward it and attack Ingrid at the same time.

「HAAAAAAAAーー!!」(Ingrid)

However, Ingrid kept running at full speed with all her might, circling around the wyvern while avoiding the black smoke of miasma.

Thanks to her, the black wyvern was now looking in a completely different direction from where Elle was.

Elle didn’t want to miss this opportunity. While Ingrid was distracting the wyvern’s attention, Elle started doing what Ingrid had told her.

She took out the summoning card she got from the shopkeeper lady earlier and summoned a clay golem.

The golem was not that big. It was only two meters high, much smaller compared to the wyvern, which was five meters tall.

To be able to fight the wyvern, she had to make the golem bigger, so she took out a water magic stone and started injecting water into the golem’s body.

「I need more water! More!」(Elle)

The clay golem gradually got bigger and bigger as Elle kept injecting water. Its body was no longer as hard as rock due to the high amount of water it contained, but in exchange, it became as big as the wyvern, and its body became elastic, allowing it to move with more flexibility.

「Golem-san, hold that wyvern and seal its mouth!」(Elle)

The golem started moving as Elle commanded.

While the wyvern was busy attacking Ingrid, the golem extended its elastic arms and strangled the wyvern’s neck from behind with its arms.

ーGRAAAAAAAAA!!

The wyvern was surprised. It wasn’t aware of the big clay golem that came out of nowhere. It tried to escape, but the heavy, strong golem didn’t allow it to move an inch.

While holding the wyvern’s neck, the golem widened its hand and extended its fingers. It then grabbed the wyvern’s mouth, sealing it by force.

「Good job, Elle! You can leave the rest to me!」(Ingrid)

Now that the black wyvern’s mouth was sealed, it was no longer able to breathe out its miasma. Ingrid could finally shoot her arrows without worrying about being repelled by it.

「It has no protection without its miasma! It’s done for!」(Ingrid)

She drew her favorite magic arrow, which was a flame bomb arrow, and released it.

The arrow flew straight at the wyvern without any miasma to block it and hit it in the chest. Soon after, the spell stored in the arrow activated and created a huge explosion.

The wyvern suffered a lot of damage, but it didn’t kill it.

「As expected from a cursed wyvern, but I’m not done yet!」(Ingrid)

Ingrid still had a lot of ammunition. She drew another flame bomb arrow and shot it at the wyvern. She repeated it multiple times, hitting the wyvern in the stomach, legs, and wings.

ーBooom! ーBooom! ーBooom! ーBooom!

After receiving an unbearable amount of damage from Ingrid’s arrows, the wyvern finally lost its life.

「Phew, finally…」(Ingrid)

Noticing the wyvern was no longer moving, Ingrid approached its body to confirm that it was really dead. She then collected her arrows and returned to Elle.

「Is it dead?」(Elle)

「Yeah. It wouldn’t survive that many of my arrows.」(Ingrid)

「I see. Golem-san, thank you. You may go now.」(Elle)

Elle let out a breath of relief and released the golem. The golem then turned into a pile of motionless mud.

「This cursed wyvern had been causing chaos in this kingdom for more than two years. I can’t believe we would be the ones defeating it. It’s all thanks to you, Elle. Well done!」(Ingrid)

「No, it’s thanks to the light fairies, the golem, and you. I’ve done nothing.」(Elle)

「That’s not true. Anyway, the victory is ours!」(Ingrid)

「You’re right. So, what are we going to do now?」(Elle)

「There’s only one thing an adventurer will do after defeating a powerful monster. Checking our prize money!」(Ingrid)

「Prize money?」(Elle)

As Elle tilted her head, Ingrid took out a square wooden card from her pocket and tapped it with her finger.

Soon after, a small magic circle appeared, and then it started producing letters made of light on the card.

「What is that?」(Elle)

「This is an adventure guild card. It’s a magic tool you will receive once you’re registered as an adventurer in the guild. It contains a lot of useful information for your job as an adventurer, and it also works as a record that will automatically record the monsters you have defeated.」(Ingrid)

「Whoa, I didn’t know such a convenient magic tool existed.」(Elle)

「Haha. There should be an update now that we’ve killed the black wyvern. Let’s see…」(Ingrid)

Ingrid used her index finger to fiddle with the wooden card. The letters made of light were moving as she swiped the card with her index finger.

「Oh, there it is! Our reward for defeating the black wyvern is… 50 gold coins!」(Ingrid)

「Fifty!?」(Elle)

They both were amazed by how much money the guild offered for killing the wyvern.

「That’s amazing! Working as an adventurer seems quite profitable.」(Elle)

「Haha. That’s not entirely true. There are not many quests with this much money as rewards, you know? Besides, it’s a risky job where you may lose your life at any moment. Anyway, let’s see what else we have here… Hmm…? N-No way!!」(Ingrid)

Reading the shining letters on the wooden card, Ingrid suddenly shouted.

「What’s wrong?」(Elle)

「Uhh… Looks like I’ve been promoted to “Trois”…」(Ingrid)

「Trois? Is it a rank or something?」(Elle)

「Yeah. There are seven ranks of adventurers. From the bottom: Six, Cinq, Quatre, Trois, Deux, Une, and the highest rank, Infini. I was a Quatre before I quit this job.」(Ingrid)

「Trois… I see. Congratulations, Ingrid!」(Elle)

「Ahaha… Thank you, Elle, but for me, this promotion doesn’t make me happy at all.」(Ingrid)

「Ah, I’m sorry… But, why don’t you happy about it?」(Elle)

「First of all, as I’ve told you, I’ve quit the job as an adventurer, and the biggest reason why I don’t want to be a Trois is that it’s super troublesome. There are indeed some privileges you can’t get unless you become a Trois or above, such as access to almost all the government facilities in this kingdom and the right to complete high-bounty quests from the guild. However, the adventurers with the rank of Trois to Infini are bound by contract with the government and must help the kingdom in times of war. It’s like… You become this country’s dog, and I don’t like it.」(Ingrid)

「So that’s why…」(Elle)

Although Ingrid didn’t make as much money as she did when she was an adventurer, she loved her job now as a magic tool engineer.

The thing she feared the most was losing the freedom to do the things she loved, such as doing experiments and creating magic tools, and being bound by a contract with the government could risk that freedom.

「Aa-ahh… I never thought I would get promoted even after quitting this job… If only Elle had a guild card, our performance evaluation would have been split, and I probably wouldn’t have been promoted. The guild must have thought I killed the wyvern by myself.」(Ingrid)

「Can’t you just go to the guild and explain to them? You can tell them that you defeated the wyvern with my help.」(Elle)

「Hmm… I doubt they would listen to me, but… Yeah, we can try. Before that, we have to get rid of the wyvern’s body.」(Ingrid)

「You’re right.」(Elle)

If it were a normal wyvern, they would dismantle it and take some useful materials from it, but since the black wyvern was cursed and corrupted, there was nothing useful that could be taken, and since they couldn’t just leave the corpse to rot there, they decided to burn it with a fire magic stone.

After waiting until the body was burnt to ash, Ingrid and Elle returned to the royal capital to visit the adventurer guild.
