Chapter 1-4 : A Big Cat And A Contract (part 1)

「A big… talking cat…!?」(Kako)

I was saved by a huge cat about the size of a human.

At first, I thought it was a lion or a tiger, but its face was too cute for a lion or a tiger, so it was without a doubt a cat.

「I’m not a cat! I’m a catto-nya. My nyame is Nyat-nya!」(Nyat)

Just when I thought that it was a cat, it denied me immediately.

「A catto…? Is that a race or something?」(Kako)

「That’s right! It’s like elves and dwarves, you know. I’m a brave and proud catto warrior-nya!」(Nyat)

「I see… I’m sorry if I was being rude. I’ve never heard there was a race called catto before.」(Kako)

「Y, You don’t know about us!? Cattos are famous for being warriors among warriors-nya!」(Nyat)

The big catー I mean, the catto who called himself Nyat was surprised when I told him I didn’t know his race. He stiffened his tail.

No matter how I look at him, he just looks like a big cat. Nothing less, nothing more. A huge white cat…

「Well, this world is big, so there are many people who live in a land where there are no cattos. I can understand-nya.」(Nyat)

Seems like cattos are the type of people who can get over something quickly.

「By the way, what are you doing in a place like this? Walking in the forest at night without a light? Are you crazy-nya? You would have become that wolf’s dinner if I didn’t help you-nya.」(Nyat)

「Ah, that’s right! I haven’t thanked you. Thank you for saving me!」(Kako)

I lowered my head and thanked Nyat.

I shivered a bit when I remembered the fear I felt when the giant wolf tried to bite my neck.

「So you know how to say thank you. You don’t seem to be a bad person-nya.」(Nyat)

「Umm, actually, I got lost in this forest…」(Kako)

It would be confusing if I told him I was from another world, so I decided to hide for now.

「Nyai see… You must be a novice adventurer. You were so absorbed in gathering herbs in this forest that you couldn’t get out before the sun set. Am I right-nya?」(Nyat)

「Adventurer?」(Kako)

Ah, I see. Monsters exist in this world, so it’s not weird that adventurers also exist.

「Hm? You’re not-nya?」(Nyat)

「No, I’m not an adventurer. I’m a… traveler! Yes, I’m a traveler. I have to travel around the world due to certain circumstances.」(Kako)

「Nyai see. So, are you in a trial where you can’t return to your village until you become a successful person or something like that-nya?」(Nyat)

「Y, Yeah. Just like that.」(Kako)

It’s not true, but let’s leave it that way. It would be a pain if I had to explain everything.

A trial where you can’t return to your home unless you’re successful, huh…?

That’s not what is happening to me. After all, I can’t go home even if I become a successful person.

Yeah… I can no longer return to my house where my parents are waiting for me…

「Uuu…」(Kako)

Tears started flowing from my eyes as I thought about how I couldn’t go home.

I wonder how my parents are doing… They must have been very sad when they found out that I died…

「N, Nya nya!? Why are you crying-nya? Are you hungry-nya? Please don’t be sad-nya!」(Nyat)

Nyat tried to comfort me, but I couldn’t stop my tears from flowing. I was overwhelmed by the feeling of sadness and regret.

I thought I was lucky to be reincarnated in a different world. I thought it would be fun to be able to live in a fantasy world like characters in RPGs.

However, the reality was completely different from video games.

Just by remembering the fear I felt when the monster tried to kill me made my entire body tremble. I could even feel its fierce murderous intent with my skin back then.

If living in my previous world was the easiest mode in a game, then living in this world would be the hardcore mode or the hell mode, which was the hardest difficulty in a game.

I completely underestimate this world…

The goddess said that this world was dangerous, but I didn’t know how dangerous it was at that moment.

If I knew, I would have chosen an overpowered combat skill to be able to survive in this dangerous world.

「A, Anyway, let’s get out of this forest-nya! It’s dangerous if we stay here any longer-nya.」(Nyat)

「Alright. But… I don’t think I can walk for a long distance. I’m sorry…」(Kako)

「Don’t worry, the exit is right there. It’s not far-nya. I built a tent on the side of the road nearby. I came here because I sensed bloodlust in this forest. You were lucky I was camping nearby-nya.」(Nyat)

「I see… Once again, thank you for saving me.」(Kako)

「Nya nya~!」(Nyat)

Nyat smiled at me and turned around.

I followed him walking through the forest.

After walking for about a few minutes, I started to see moonlight coming through the gap between trees. It seemed that we were walking toward the area with less and less trees.

Not long after, I could finally see the road. I could see the surroundings very clearly thanks to the bright moonlight.

I turned my head upward and saw the starry sky with two moons.

Yes. Seems like this world has two moons!

One was similar to the moon visible from Earth, and the other one looked like a rounded fluorescent light.

Outside the forest was a vast grassland and a road leading somewhere.

「I didn’t know that the exit was this near…」(Kako)

I felt so relieved to be able to leave that scary dark forest…

「Umm, thank you for taking me out of the forest. I haven’t introduced myself, have I? My name is Kako Mayama.」(Kako)

Kako was grateful to Nyat not only because he saved her life but also because he showed her the way out of the forest.

「Kako Manyama?」(Nyat)

It’s Mayama, but I didn’t correct him because the way he said my surname was cute.

「You have a weird name-nya. Clearly, you’re not from this region-nya.」(Nyat)

「Yeah. I came from a place far, faaaar away from here.」(Kako)

「Nyai see.」(Nyat)

「Hehe, thank you, really. I would have been dead if it weren’t for you.」(Kako)

「Kako Manyama, you don’t have to thank me so many times-nya. It’s my duty as a warrior to help a child who cried for help-nya.」(Nyat)

Wait… Certainly, I cried for help, but…

「I’m not a child. I’m an adult, you know?」(Kako)

Compared to my classmates, I had a small body and looked like a child. That was why I asked the goddess to give me large breasts, but she didn’t listen.

「An adult? No. You were frightened and were crying, that means you’re still a child-nya.」(Nyat)

「I did cry, but that doesn’t mean that I’m still a child! I’m an adult!」(Kako)

「Nyahaha! Don’t worry, I understand-nya. Children tend to have the desire to become adults as soon as possible, after all.」(Nyat)

「I’m not a child! …Oh, well…」(Kako)

He saved my life and I’m thankful for that, but he kinda annoys me now…

Gununu…!!
