Chapter 4-29 : Baron Mylia’s Speech (part 2)
Mylia, who was urged by Parites, reluctantly got on the wooden box and faced the villagers.
She was worried that some of them would hate her because she left them behind for the royal capital.
However, after looking at the crowd for a while, she realized that no one stared at her with hatred.
The villagers had always believed that Mylia and Chloe went to the Adrashelm Royal Girls’ Academy to study so that they could save the village from its miserable state.
They went wild as soon as they saw the little witch wearing the royal academy uniform that was decorated with two Dragon Slayer emblems standing on top of the podium (wooden box).
The young ones were cheering, “Our savior has come!”, while the elder ones were kneeling and praying to Goddess Celis, showing their gratitude to her for sending Mylia back.
Mylia was nervous at first, but then she was relieved after confirming that no one there hated her.
She swallowed once and began her speech while scratching her head awkwardly.
「Umm… Hello, everyone… It’s me, Mylia… Hehe…」(Mylia)
「Mylia-sama!!」
「Welcome home!」
「We’ve been waiting for you!」(villagers)
「Thank you for welcoming me home… Umm…」(Mylia)
(Ugh… I don’t know where to start… Let’s see… Oh, that’s right! Since I’ll be governing this territory, I should listen to them first and try to find solutions for their problems.)
「As you have heard from Officer Parites, I will be the next feudal lord of this territory. First, I want to hear from you about the problems you have been facing while living in this village.」(Mylia)
Soon after Mylia said that, a middle-aged man raised his arm, asking for permission to speak.
Mylia then nodded at him, telling him that he may speak.
「Mylia-sama, as you might have known, we barely make food here. Lacking food has always been our main problem since Aaron started governing this territory. I really hope you will be able to solve this problem.」(middle-aged man)
The soil in the village was not ideal for growing crops, especially wheat.
Bonnie and some villagers had been working to find a solution to solve this problem. They had tried so many methods, but none of them worked.
As always, they could only rely on the merchant caravan that only came twice a year to get wheat, salt, and other necessities.
After the middle-aged man stated the main problem of the village, a young man raised his arm and reported another problem.
He was carrying a bow and quiver on his back, so he seemed to be a hunter.
「Mylia-sama, it would be nice if you could get rid of the monsters in the forest surrounding this village.」(young man)
The villagers could get wheat and other food from the merchant caravan, but it wasn’t enough. They still needed to go on dangerous hunts or gather wild vegetables in the forest to overcome the shortage of food.
However, they couldn’t do that too often because the forest surrounding the village was a monster territory.
It was called the Demon Forest because there were so many dangerous, ferocious monsters that could easily kill humans there.
The villagers had been tormented by the feeling of being trapped between monster territories for a long time.
No entertainment, no food, no safety. Mylia thought that this village, which was on the verge of collapse, needed to be saved as soon as possible.
Now that she was no longer nervous, Mylia smiled at the villagers and answered their questions.
「Everyone, you can rest assured. Onee-chaー I mean, Chloe onee-sama and I already have a plan for that. First, we will find a way to fix the soil in this area. After that, we will expand this village and build a big livestock husbandry and farms to grow crops. In order to do that, I need to get rid of the monsters in the forest so that we can expand the area. Don’t worry, I’ve killed two elder dragons before, so getting rid of the monsters in the forest won’t be a big deal for me.」(Mylia)
「Whoaa! I expect nothing less from our Dragon Slayer!」
「I remember she was just a weak girl who could only daydream all the time before she left.」
「She has changed so much! Now she is no longer the absent-minded Mylia ojou-chan we knew!」
「She is a dependable, strong feudal lord now!」(villagers)
The villagers started talking about how great Mylia was while looking at the two Dragon Slayer emblems on her chest.
「I will assure you that you will be able to eat your fill every day. Not only that, you will be able to eat meat every day! Tender, juicy, delicious meat that’s not inferior to the meat sold in Jojoen!」(Mylia)
「Uwoooooooghhー!!」
「Seriously!? We’ll be able to eat our fill every day!?」
「That’s super awesome!」
「I don’t know what ‘Jojoen’ is but I’m looking forward to eating delicious meat!」(villagers)
The villagers were cheering and applauding. They hadn’t been able to eat until full for a very long time, so they were very excited.
「Furthermore, I will create a new food culture in this territory. It’s called “Japanese food culture”! Rice, onigiri, yakiniku, yakisobaー You will be able to enjoy the food that will make you smile just by putting it in your mouth! Japanese food revolution will begin soon!」(Mylia)
Right after saying that, Mylia clenched her fist and raised her arm.
「All hail, Mylia-samaaa!!」
「I don’t know what she’s talking about but I’m so excited!」
「Japanese food culture rocks!」(villagers)
The villagers didn’t know the meaning of unfamiliar words coming from Mylia’s mouth but they knew that Mylia was talking about food, so they were cheering even louder.
「Before I end my speech, I have presents for you!」(Mylia)
Saying that, Mylia took hundreds of grilled dabola skewers from her magic bag and distributed them to the villagers with Gravity Magic.
The villagers then grabbed the floating grilled dabola skewers and gratefully ate them.
Some of them were crying with joy, some of them were shouting, “Delicious!”, and some of them were cheering for Mylia.
Meanwhile, the leader of the heraldic officers, Pirates, applauded with satisfaction.
「Your speech gives hope to the people in despair. What a wonderful speech! Great job, Lady Mylia!」(Parites)
「Ahaha… Thank you.」(Mylia)
(I feel like I was talking about nothing but food, though… Oh, whatever…)
Chloe, who was watching Mylia while applauding near the entrance to the mansion, suddenly came up with something.
She approached Mylia and called out to her.
「Mylia.」(Chloe)
「What’s wrong, Onee-chan?」(Mylia)
Mylia then crouched down on top of the wooden box and brought her face closer to Chloe’s
「Since we have a lot of people here, I think we should proceed with the plan.」(Chloe)
After saying that, Chloe glanced at Bonnie, who was still standing by the entrance.
Seeing Chloe glance at Bonnie, Mylia immediately realized what Chloe was trying to say.
「Ah, I see~ Alright, leave it to me!」(Mylia)
Mylia nodded at Chloe, stood up, and faced the villagers again.
「Everyone, I have important things to say! The Atwood Territory will be renewed. First of all, I want to develop this small village and turn it into a big town! I will name it “The Town of Lavender”, and the mayor who will govern it isーー」(Mylia)
Mylia paused her speech for a moment, turned around, and stretched her arm toward the entrance to the mansion.
「ーーBonnie onee-sama!」(Mylia)

ROFL Mylia-Chan is turning a entire poor village in a Alternate Fantasy world into Japanese Food Weebs! 😆 That’s Mylia for you breaking down boundaries between worlds and Solving hunger by introducing Japanese food subculture!
Why do I feel Bonnie doesn’t know about it and she will be bewildered by the sudden announcement? 😅
It is safe to say that at this point, if Aaron, Robin, Ella, and/or Alex try any shit. The Queen and her subordinates will probably not have to lift a finger, because the lynch mob formed by the villagers would probably get to them first.
did you forget about the meteor?
Nope. Mylia can probably stop the meteor, leaving Aaron to the mercy of the likely to be enraged villagers afterwards.
Thanks for the chapter
I hate all that “japanese food sugoi oishii etc etc”
like rice balls where the best thing in the fucking world.
just grilled meat with different name and shit suddenly becomes the best thing ever.
The point of rice is that you get about double the calories for the same amount of land compared to wheat and pest control is easier because flooding the field takes care of most while the rice plant is unharmed (note that rice doesn’t actually need a flooded field to grow, this is simply done for the aforementioned reason).
This is why it’s considered a “saviour” crop, it helps an area with bad soil escape famen as long as water is plentiful.
An artificial rice strain created like 60 years ago was also responsible for the yield increase, but I don’t think a fantasy novel will get that deep in the details.
Rice balls are a way to fill up cheaply because traditionaly they’re just mostly rice with tiny amounts of meant akin to seasoning. So the focus is one again on starvation prevention, the meat inside is not the main source of calories. Grilled meat is not the inovation.
In this chapter its purpose was to increase Milya’s favoribility in the eyes of the villagers. This is a common tactic for political campaigns in impoverished areas, free food or other goods are handed out at rallies to effectively buy votes, though you may not be aware of this if you live in a well off area or the practice is banned by law where you live because money winning elections is considered bad for democracy.
Similarly a feudal lord would do this to increase compliance without having to hire expensive mercenaries to forcibly put down unrest during troubled times. Not a problem for Milya, but the practice lives on.
Rice balls are small yet filling because they’re made out of short grain rice, filling and umeboshi. And trust me, umeboshi is delicious. I’m Chinese, so I know. Most Japanese dishes originated from China anyway. Then they made their own additions/alterations. A famous sushi and sashimi restaurant in Japan even admits that sushi and sashimi originally came from China. They were just called different names. But the Japanese preferred short grain rice, which is much more filling per the weight, so it’s much more suitable for feeding tons of people. We Chinese also sometimes eat short grain rice depending on the dish.
“The Town of Lavender”…. Mylia, where tf do you think you are: the Kanto region?!
Jokes and references aside, congratulations on your very well-earned promotion; and thank you Fantazma for translating this novel. It remains a wonderful and entertaining read.
I mean, clearly some people have lost their minds, so maybe the creepypasta wasn’t completely wrong?
