Prologue

 

In a deep forest full of tall trees, there were four bears wandering around in search of food.

After wandering for a while, they spotted a delicious-looking human girl who seemed lost in the forest.

The bears were overjoyed that they had finally found a nice dinner. One of them could no longer hold back. It dashed toward the girl.

The girl seemed to notice the bear. She turned her body in the direction the bear was coming from, but it was too late. The bear was already less than ten meters away from her.

The bear who knew it was coming, swung its left arm, aiming for the girl’s neck, but she quickly shifted her body downward to avoid the bear’s claws.

When she found an opening, she quickly unsheathed her wakizashi and swung it horizontally in one swift movement, cutting the bear’s head off without hesitation.

The blood gushed out from the bear’s severed neck as its body collapsed to the ground.

Seeing the girl kill their other friend, the two remaining Earth Bears stepped back. They thought that the girl was a dangerous hunter that could kill them in a single blow.

Without sheathing her wakizashi back, the girl turned to the two bears and started singing in a low, cold voice.

The bears couldn’t help but to shiver while listening to her singing voice and watching her slowly approaching them.

When she showed a cold grin on her face, the bears thought that she must be a merciless god of death who was sent to kill them.

At the same moment, the status icon of [Fear] showed above their heads.

They turned around and ran away, but one of them was much slower than the other.

Without wasting any time, the girl accelerated by jumping from tree to tree toward the slow bear.

Right after she called a name, a small snake who seemed to be her familiar came out from inside her clothes.

While saying that, she took out some ropes from her Item Box and placed them on top of the headless bear corpse.

The voice was heard from the right, so the bear quickly turned to the left, but then the voice was heard from the left. The bear then turned to the right, but just like before, the voice was heard from the direction it was trying to avoid.

No matter what the bear did, it couldn’t escape from the voice. It became even more panicked.

It didn’t take long until it could hear the voice right behind its head.

The Earth Bear corpse was two meters tall and it was quite heavy. Carrying it would be difficult but she made it look easy.

The blood kept flowing out from the severed neck, staining the ground along the way as the girl dragged the corpse upside down.

When she returned, she saw the three corpses of the Earth Bears she killed earlier were tied to a tree with the severed neck at the bottom.

「Levy, I’m back.」(girl)

「Kyuu~」(Levy)

「Hmm, seems like it will take a while to drain blood from these corpses. Let’s hang this one up too.」(girl)

「Kyuu.」(Levy)

The snake nodded and helped the girl hang the last corpse on the tree as well.

After that, the snake spat out water from its mouth and started washing the hanging corpses.

After they finished draining the blood and washing them, the girl put them in her Item Box.
