Chapter 1-52 : The End Of The PvP Event (part 2)

「Ara, Alice, welcome back~」(Rin)

「Rin… Congratulations on making it to the final.」(Alice)

「Thank you~」(Rin)

As soon as she won her match, Rin returned to us.

She smiled at me awkwardly for some reason.

「Congrats, Rin~!」(Leone)

「Congratulations!」(Kururu)

「That’s my girl!」(Shuu)

「Well done.」(Gaul)

「Congratulations, Rin.」(Ruka)

「Fufu, thank you, guys!」(Rin)

Rin waved her hand and thanked everyone as she walked toward her seat next to mine, but instead of sitting, she looked at me somewhat apologetic.

「Umm, can I sit here?」(Rin)

「Hm? Of course, it’s your seat.」(Alice)

She replied to me silently with a smile and sat next to me.

「Umm… What’s wrong, Rin?」(Alice)

There was obviously something in her mind.

She awkwardly scratched her cheek with her index finger and answered.

「Well… During our match, I was trying to look strong in front of you and ended up going too far. I’m sorry.」(Rin)

I see. So she’s worrying about that.

「Don’t worry. You were just trying your best to win.」(Alice)

「But when I hit you with my Tempest Railgun, you looked like you were in a lot of pain.」(Rin)

「Well, it was painful. Hm? Hold on… Rin, did you approach me back then because of that?」(Alice)

「Yeah… I was worried about you, so…」(Rin)

She looked away shyly.

I knew it. She decided to approach me instead of finishing me off from a distance because she was worried.

「Rin, you know why she suffered so much from your railgun attack? It’s because she set the pain reduction to 50%!」(Kururu)

「What!? 50!?」(Rin)

Rin was shocked when Kururu explained the reason.

「Alice, what are you thinking!? 50% is too low!」(Rin)

「I just want more thrill when I play this game.」(Alice)

「Ugh… It’s not that I don’t understand such a thrill, but you had to endure my Tempest Railgun because of that! It must hurt, right? Aaahh! I can’t believe it! I didn’t mean it, but I hurt my best friend in the match! I’m so sorry, Alice!」(Rin)

Rin leaned toward me and hugged me tightly.

「Eh? No, no. It’s my own fault for using that setting. You did nothing wrong, Rin.」(Alice)

「Still, I feel bad. Oh, how about this. I’ll buy you the popular strawberry cake in the campus cafeteria next time!」(Rin)

「Really!?」(Alice)

「Un, un! Anything for you!」(Rin)

「Thank you, Rin! I’m looking forward to it!」(Alice)

She doesn’t have to do that, but I can’t decline a free cake.

「Un! That’s my Alice! You’re so cute! I love you!」(Rin)

「I love you too, Rin.」(Alice)

「Fufu. I was worried you two wouldn’t get along after the match, but I was worrying for nothing, it seems.」(Leone)

Seeing Rin and I hug each other, Leone giggled.

「Well, we sometimes fight, but we won’t fight over a match. Right, Alice~?」(Rin)

「Yeah. Though, I was a bit frustrated since I was so close to win.」(Alice)

「Fufu. I thought you got me too, but, too bad for you~」(Rin)

「Hmph. Next time I’m gonna win!」(Alice)

「I won’t lose either~」(Rin)

Seeing Rin smiling, I couldn’t help but smile too.

『Ladies and gentlemen, the final matches will be held in the main venue. For those who want to watch, you can move to the location now. As for the finalists from group A, B, C, and D, they will be automatically teleported to the waiting room in a minute.』(Taurus)

Looks like the last three matches will be held in a different venue.

The spectators started to leave their seats and head downstairs.

「It’s time. Well then, guys, wish me luck~!」(Rin)

「Rin, You can do it!」(Alice)

「Good luck~」(Leone)

Rin stood up from her seat and waved at us. She then disappeared, being teleported to the waiting room.

As for us, we left our seats and followed the other spectators moving to the main venue.

There were four finalists from each group.

From group A was a warrior/knight named Baldr. He was the leader of the most well-known clan in the game, the Silver Wing Brigade.

From group B was Rin, also known as the Tempest Queen, my best friend.

From group C was a guy who defeated Shougo. He was a mysterious magic user wearing a hood that covered his face.

From group D was Eclair, one of the few players who were nice to me. She was the vice leader of the Silver Wing Brigade.

The final matches were determined randomly by the system. The first match would be Rin versus the mysterious magic user guy, and the second match would be the leader of the Silver Wing Brigade versus his most trusted person, the vice leader herself.

In the first match, Rin’s opponent used advanced earth magic to create a huge golem. That was probably what defeated Shougo.

However, for Rin, who had the most powerful lightning spells in the game, a mere golem was not a problem at all. She destroyed it with her Tempest Railgun and immediately attacked its defenseless master with the combination of wind and lightning magic, reducing his HP to zero.

Rin successfully secured her victory and proceeded to the grand final.

In the second match, Baldr, the leader, was fighting against his vice leader, Eclair. However, although Eclair was his most trusted partner, he didn’t show her mercy at all.

Eclair was a magic user, but unlike other magic users who used their staffs only to cast spells, she used her staff as a melee weapon for close-combat fights too. That’s right. She is a rare hybrid-type player who uses both magic and physical abilities.

However, her opponent was her leader, who was known for his impenetrable defense and powerful heavy hits.

Eclair kept unleashing her powerful magic spells while looking for an opening to attack the leader at close range, but the leader blocked everything with his shield and caught Eclair off guard with his unique skill, Shield Stun.

Unlike regular stun skills, the leader’s Shield Stun worked on the enemies who were immune to stun, especially powerful bosses. Also, it had a much longer duration than regular stun skills. I saw it once during the raid to the south a while ago.

Thanks to that, he was able to continue attacking Eclair safely with his sword until he depleted her HP completely.

And finally, the grand final. Rin versus Baldr. Just like the previous match, this match was intense.

Rin went all out from the start. She unleashed Sturm as soon as the match began, but the leader held still. He blocked the storm firmly with his shield and was able to stand still, as solid as a rock.

Realizing the leader wouldn’t be blown away by her storm, Rin canceled her spell. She then changed from wind magic to lightning magic and began to attack the leader with long-ranged lightning spells.

She was aware that her opponent was one of the strongest players currently in the game, so she didn’t care if it would deplete her MP; she kept attacking the leader with her powerful spells while keeping her distance, disabling him from striking back.

Of course, she didn’t do such risky moves without a reason. She was gambling on whether she could reduce the durability of the leader’s shield to zero or not. If she ran out of MP before she could do that, she would lose.

In this game, weapons and armor have durability points. They won’t break when their durability reaches zero, but they will lose most of their stats and abilities.

Luckily for Rin, the leader’s shield had suffered so much damage in the previous match against Eclair. He probably had a very durable, high-quality shield, but it didn’t seem to last after receiving a tremendous amount of damage from the two strongest magic users in the game.

Rin won the gamble and used the opportunity to strike the leader, who had lost most of his defense and resistance, with a barrage of Tempest Railgun.

The leader was unable to defend himself against that powerful combination of wind and lightning magic and was defeated.

With this, Rin became the ultimate winner of the first PvP event.

『The match is over! The winner is The Tempest Queen, Riiiiiiinn!!』(Taurus)

「「UWOOOOOOOOO!!」」(spectators)

「She really did it!」(Leone)

「I knew she would win!」(Kururu)

「She defeated that famous player! Awesome!」(Shuu)

「Good match.」(Gaul)

「Rin…」(Alice)

I looked at her, who was waving her hands so happily in the center of the arena floor. I couldn’t help but make a big smile on my face.

「Alice, she did it.」(Ruka)

「Un! She did it!」(Alice)

I was happy that my best friend was victorious, but at the same time, I was disappointed in myself.

Rin has always been good at games. I rarely beat her.

At that very moment, I vowed to myself I would continue playing this game more seriously and getting stronger and stronger until I could defeat her.

Rin was my best friend, but after the event was over, she became my goal.

Wait for me, Rin. Next time, I will definitely win!
