Chapter 1-42 : Preparing For The Event Ⅱ

「*Sigh*…」(Arisa)

The next day, on the way home from the campus with Suzu (Rin), I sighed while still brainstorming about the strategy I would use in the PVP event.

「Arisa, what’s wrong?」(Suzu)

「Ah, it’s nothing.」(Arisa)

Noticing me sighing, Suzu asked me while looking a bit concerned.

By the way, Shougo is staying on the campus for some extra classes, so he’s not with us now.

「If you have any worries, you can talk to me. Maybe I can help you.」(Suzu)

「Thank you, but it’s nothing serious, really. It’s about NWO.」(Arisa)

「NWO? Ah, are you thinking about the upcoming PVP event?」(Suzu)

「Yeah. You and Shougo will be participating too, right? Have you prepared for it?」(Arisa)

「Well, I’ve mostly been leveling up my skills and getting my equipment ready lately. I also start stocking up mana potions just in case.」(Suzu)

「Mana potions, huh? It’s a must-have item if you use magic. Where do you usually buy it?」(Arisa)

I’ve never used mana potions, and Nansa obaa-chan only sells health potions. I wonder where you can get those potions.

「Many people are selling mana potions in Ijard Town. I normally buy them from a street stall on the main street. Speaking of potions, some people sell higher-level health potions called red potions there.」(Suzu)

「Red potions?」(Arisa)

「Yup. It heals 35% more HP than regular health potions. You might want to stock some of them.」(Suzu)

「Noted. Thank you for the info.」(Arisa)

「You’re welcome. I don’t think you will need potions, though. You will likely defeat your enemies quickly in one hit before they even realize they got hit.」(Suzu)

「Umm… I don’t know about that. The thing is, I will be fighting against players. I can kill monsters in one hit with my【Sever】skill because their movements are kinda predictable, but players… I don’t think it will be that easy.」(Arisa)

「I see. So you’re worrying about that.」(Suzu)

「Yeah. Any advice?」(Arisa)

「The only advice I can give you as a spell user is… Learn magic!」(Suzu)

「Magic, huh?」(Arisa)

「Yep. Magic’s fun! Also, you might learn various ways of fighting if you expand your arsenal.」(Suzu)

「Hmm… You’re right. Thank you, Suzu!」(Arisa)

「You’re welcome! Let’s do our best together in the event!」(Suzu)

「Un!」(Arisa)

Suzu stroked my head and smiled.

We might become opponents and fight each other in the event, but if that time comes, I hope both of us will have a good time together.

Suzuー I mean, Rin, Shougo, and Ruka are doing their best to prepare themselves for the PVP event. I can’t lose to them!

ーーーーー

After eating dinner and doing the dishes, I returned to my room and put my VR headgear on. I logged into NWO and continued my preparation for the PVP event.

I took Rin’s advice and decided to learn magic skills.

By the way, before I even started this game, I had decided what kind of magic I would learn if I ever wanted to use magic. Yup. It’s【Earth Magic】and【Dark Magic】.

I searched for them in the list of available skills and spent Skill Points to learn them.

When I equipped the two skills in the active skill slot, I became able to use basic earth and dark spells such as Earth Bullet, Earth Shield, and Dark Bullet.

Without wasting time, I immediately went to the forest to look for some target practice.

「Come, doggy, doggy~ Let’s play~」(Alice)

I found an Erst Wolf wandering around a few meters ahead. It hasn’t noticed me yet.

Usually, I would run toward it with my【Sever】skill activated, but now, I stretched my arm forward and chanted the earth spell.

「Earth Bullet!」(Alice)

A bullet of stone about the size of a baseball appeared right in front of my palm and flew at high speed toward the Erst Wolf.

It hit the wolf’s side, but didn’t kill it since my【Earth Magic】skill was still level 1. The wolf groaned in pain for a second and glared at me angrily as if saying, “Was it you who threw a rock at me!?”

The wolf then dashed toward me in anger and opened its mouth, trying to bite me, but then I quickly chanted a defensive earth spell.

「Earth Shield!」(Alice)

Before the wolf’s sharp fangs could reach me, a wall of earth about my height appeared between me and the wolf. As a result, the wolf crashed into the wall headfirst, further reducing its HP a little.

Immediately, I jumped over the wall, stretched my arm down toward the wolf, who was shaking its head while groaning in pain in front of the wall, and chanted my dark magic spell.

「Dark Bullet!」(Alice)

A black-flame-like thing appeared and hit the wolf in the head, reducing the rest of the wolf’s HP to zero and killing it.

「Phew… I had to use three spells to kill a single wolf…」(Alice)

I normally kill Erst Wolves in one hit most of the time, so struggling against a single wolf frustrated me a bit.

Well, it can’t be helped. I’ve just learned these magic spells after all, so they don’t do much damage. But, as Rin said, magic’s fun!

After collecting the wolf’s corpse, I continued looking for more target practice and trying my magic spells.

I also tried using magic together with my other skills like【Sever】and【Children’s Song】.

Speaking of【Children’s Song】, the other day, after trying out a few children’s songs I knew, I learned that different songs had different effects.

Some songs inflicted my enemies with negative status. For example, “Kagome kagome” could make my enemies confused, and “The Queen of Hearts” could make my enemies fear me.

Not just my enemies, but some songs also affected the area around me. For example, “Come, Come, Snow” made snow begin to fall in the surrounding area, “A Rainy Day” made it start to rain, and “Teru Teru Bozu” made it sunny.

For the songs that inflict negative status on enemies, the effect will only work when they hear my voice. So, if I stop singing, or when they run away to the point they can’t no longer hear my voice, the negative status will be gone.

As for the songs that affect my surrounding area, the size of the area that will be affected depends on how loud my voice is.

The point is that I need to sing as loud as possible when I use my【Children’s Song】skill, and when I searched for useful skills on the list of available skills to learn, I found an interesting skill. It was called【Echo】. This skill allows my voice to echo with a short delay in a larger range when I shout in the mountains or forests. It may be a useless skill for most people, but for me, it can be a deadly weapon.

However, as the skill description explained, it seems that【Echo】skill can only be used in mountains or forests. It’s not very practical, especially in the PVP event, where you will fight in a fighting arena.

「Hahh… If only the PVP arena is in a forest, I would be at an advantage for sure… 」(Alice)

I will be fighting players in the event, and my biggest concern is if I can’t land a hit with my【Sever】skill and fail to kill them in one hit. After all, hitting a thin, red line on an enemy’s weak spot is not easy, especially when your enemy is a player who can think and move in unpredictable ways, unlike monsters.

However, if I fight them in a forest, I might have a bigger chance of winning since I’m used to fighting in a forest. I could use the trees to hide and move around, and I would be able to use one hundred percent of my abilities if I fought in that field.

But… It’s not me who decides the rules…

「Hmm… Should I start practicing fighting in an open area without any obstacles?」(Alice)

While wondering if I should start practicing fighting in a different field, I took a break and opened my stat window.

I checked my skill list to see if I had leveled up any skills. At that moment…

「…This skill… Wait… I think I can use it!」(Alice)

I suddenly came up with a brilliant idea when I looked at one of my skills.

「Yeah, this is it! This skill will solve all my problems! I’ve learned this skill for a long time, but why didn’t I realize it sooner!?」(Alice)

I didn’t realize it sooner, probably because it wasn’t a combat skill. After all, thinking about PVP made me focus only on combat skills.

That’s right! This is not a combat skill. It’s a production skill, but ‘this skill’ will be my trump card!
