Chapter 1-22 : The Girl And The Cat Save The Ship (part 1)

「E, Excuse me!」(receptionist)

「Hm? You’re a receptionist, right? What are you doing here?」(Captain)

「Pardon me, Captain, but there’s someone who wants to see you.」(receptionist)

When the receptionist guy said that, the captain shifted his gaze toward Elle who was disguised as an old woman.

「Are you talking about this old woman? Who is she?」(Captain)

「She said she is a witch who can see the future. You might not believe it but she told me that we would crash into a huge iceberg.」(receptionist)

「Iceberg, you say?」(Captain)

Hearing the word ‘iceberg’ the officer who was standing next to the captain cut in.

「Nonsense! She said the same thing as that girl. This is ridiculous.」(Hans)

「”That girl”? What girl? Third Officer, what are you talking about?」(Captain)

「I, it’s nothing, Sir. Please don’t mind me.」(Hans)

The officer looked panicked. It seemed that he didn’t want the captain to know that he locked a girl up in a cabin.

「Is that so? …Anyway, Madam, you said that you could see the future. Did you really see this ship crash into an iceberg?」(Captain)

Elle silently nodded to answer.

「Hmm…」(Captain)

As expected, the captain looked doubtful. He approached the telescope installed there and looked through it.

「…It’s too dark. Can’t see anything…」(Captain)

He sighed and returned his gaze to Elle.

「I can’t see it, but I know there’s no iceberg. I’ve been the captain of this ship for a long time, and I’m familiar with these waters, but I’ve never seen a huge iceberg around here.」(Captain)

「Th, that’s right! There’s no iceberg in this course!」(Hans)

「Yeah, but, Third Officer, why are you looking so nervous?」(Captain)

「I… I’m not nervous, Sir…」(Hans)

The captain squinted his eyes in suspicion when he looked at the officer. He knew that the officer was hiding something from him.

「Anyway, Madam, I’m sorry, but I’m quite a skeptical person, especially when it’s about future sights or something like that. I won’t believe you unless you can prove it.」(Captain)

「Of course, I can prove it to you.」(Elle)

Elle replied to the captain with an old woman’s voice.

「Interesting. How will you do it?」(Captain)

「With my magic.」(Elle)

As soon as she replied to the captain, she took out a magic stone from her magic bag. It was a magic stone of light.

As she raised it up with both hands, the light fairies appeared and started circling around the stone.

「Pa… particles of light? What on earth are these things?」(Officer Hans)

「Hoo~ Fascinating.」(Captain)

The fairies appeared as particles of light in front of the others.

While looking at the fairies, Elle secretly nodded, telling them to do their job.

The light fairies then carried the magic stone and flew toward the iceberg.

When they were close to it, they activated the magic stone and boosted its light with their power.

As a result, the magic stone turned into a small sun that emitted a dazzling light and brightened the surroundings as bright as day.

Thanks to that, everyone could now see the giant iceberg ahead.

「What the… Is that for real!?」(Officer Hans)

「I can’t believe it…」(Captain)

The officer and the captain looked shocked. They were too confident in themselves, so it was hard for them to believe what they saw.

They thought it was just an illusion created by Elle’s magic at first, but it looked too real for an illusion.

They didn’t have a choice but to believe what they saw.

「No way! There’s really a huge iceberg!」(Officer Hans)

「It’s getting closer! HARD TO STARBOOOOARD!!」(Captain)

「Aye, Captain!」(helmsman)

The iceberg was just a few hundred meters away from the ship.

There was no time to waste. The captain immediately gave the command to turn the ship, hoping they could avoid the iceberg, and then the helmsman quickly moved his hands up and down, turning the big steer with all his might.

As they got closer to the iceberg, the amount of drift ice seemed to be increasing. The ship bumped into some of it, causing the ship to shake violently a few times.

Because of the huge bumps into the drift ice and the view of the huge iceberg ahead, the passengers started panicking. The deck started to become noisy with people screaming in confusion.

「Look! There’s a huge iceberg!」
「We’re hitting the ice!」
「Hold onto something!」
「No! I don’t wanna die!」
「Get me into a lifeboat!」(passengers)

Sea water splashed up onto the deck when the ship was tilted, soaking the passengers and making them even more panicked.

The ship crew members were trying their best to calm the passengers down. They told them to go back to their cabins and wait for further instructions. However, the situation was far from conducive. It was so noisy that their voices couldn’t be heard.

Hearing all the screams outside the bridge, Elle began to worry. She was worrying about her friend, Charlotte. She thought she must be scared right now.

「Captain!」(Officer Hans)

「Don’t worry. I think we will be able to avoid that iceberg if we keep going like this.」(Captain)

Despite all the commotion, they seemed to manage to escape from the danger.

Thanks to Elle, the ship had changed its course in time. It was now heading a bit right, avoiding the iceberg on its path.

Thinking that they were going to be all right, Elle let out a sigh of relief. She was happy that she made it.

Meanwhile, the captain turned to the officer and looked at him somewhat angryly.

「Third officer, your job is to make sure that our course is safe! How could you not notice such a huge iceberg!? Are you damn blind!? You could have checked the course with your damn telescope before the sun went down!」(Captain)

「…My apologies, Sir. I was careless… I thought we were going to be just fine, so I didn’t check… It was my fault…」(Officer Hans)

The officer bowed to the captain apologetically.

He was aware that the ship might have crashed into the iceberg and sank because of his carelessness. His expression showed a huge amount of regret.

After scolding the officer, the captain turned to Elle and lowered his head.

「Thank you, Madam. If it wasn’t for you, we might haveー」(Captain)

ーWooooshh!!

However, before the captain finished talking, the ship suddenly tilted sideways.

It wasn’t over yet. They were still in danger.

The wind of misfortune was still blowing at them in the shape of a strong gust that suddenly blew and pushed the ship toward the iceberg even though they had changed direction.

「What theー!?」(Captain)

「Captain, we’re hit by a strong gust!」(crew member)

「Dammit! Why now!?」(Captain)

The ship was accelerating toward the iceberg. It shook violently every time it bumped into drift ice. As a result, people became even more panicked.

The giant iceberg that appeared in the safe course. The sudden gust that was pushing the ship toward it. All those strange occurrences made people think that the ship might have been cursed.

「What in the world is happening!?」
「We’re gonna crash!」
「No! We’re gonna die!」
「Has God forsaken us!?」
「Captain, what should we do!?」(crew members)

The captain couldn’t help but gritted his teeth and clenched his fists. From his expression, it was obvious that there was nothing they could do.

「BRACE FOR IMPAAAAAACT!!」(Captain)
