Chapter 2-7 : To The Eastern Capital (part 2)
「Wow, there are so many people here!」(Kako)
As expected, the city was overflowing with people.
I think there are more people here than the Town of Tranto.
「I’ll show you around this city later, but let’s go to my mansion first.」(Maitena)
「Okay.」(Kako)
After riding the carriage across the city for a while, we stopped in front of the biggest building in the center of the city.
「Whoaa… Is this your house?」(Kako)
「Yup. We’re going to catch some bandits and search for the goods they stole, so we’ll need a base. Luckily, I have some unused rooms here.」(Maitena)
Maitena-san is a noble so I knew her house would be big, but it is much bigger than I expected.
I wonder if they have maids and butlers here. I’m kinda excited to see real maids and butlers, which are not cosplayers.
「「Welcome back, Lady Maitena!」」(servants)
As soon as we passed the front gate and got off the carriage, we were greeted by maids and butlers forming two rows on each side of the neatly paved cobblestone pathway leading to the main building.
As expected, they have maids and butlers! And there are so many of them! This is awesome!
Looks like Maitena-san’s family is a super rich noble family like the one I saw in a movie.
The walls surrounding the mansion were almost as tall as the defensive walls of Tranto Town and the front yard was a beautiful flower garden as big as a football field.
They even have a high tower near the main building. I want to climb it and see this city’s landscape from up there!
「This house is super awesome! I’ve never seen a house this big. I thought it was a palace at first.」(Sheila)
「Maitena-san’s family must be the richest family in this entire region.」(Kako)
「That’s not true. My house is much smaller compared to other noble families, you know?」(Maitena)
「Is that so…?」(Kako)
「Say, what’s the point of me coming along? Honestly, I think it’s better if I go to the Merchant Guild to gather information. Honestly… I feel a bit awkward being in rich people’s environment like this…」(Sheila)
Sheila-san looked nervous. She shrunk her shoulders and tried not to make eye contact with the servants.

I grabbed Sheila’s arm and held it tightly so as not to let her go.

As I grabbed Sheila’s arm, a butler with an expensive-looking gray suit approached us. He seemed to be the head butler.
「Welcome back, my lady. I couldn’t be happier to see you’re doing well.」(head butler)
「Marqise, it’s been a while. It’s good to see you too.」(Maitena)
「Your parents are waiting for you inside. They are eager to see you.」(Marqise)
「Yeah, I know. Kako, you come with me.」(Maitena)
「Eh? Only me?」(Kako)
「Yeah. I’ll introduce the others later. For now, I want you to meet my parents.」(Maitena)
「What about Sheila?」(Kako)
「She can wait.」(Maitena)
「Yosha! I’m sorry, Kako, it seems like I have to leave you~」(Sheila)
「You damn traitor!」(Kako)
Sheila looked so happy thinking that she didn’t have to stay in this mansion any longer. However, her irritating smiley face didn’t last long.
「Well then, I’m going to find an inn to stay in. Let me know if you guys find any information about the stolen goods.」(Sheila)
「Hm? What are you talking about? Sheila, you will stay in my mansion too.」(Maitena)
「…Eh?」(Sheila)
The smile on Sheila’s face suddenly hardened.
「It will take time to track down those thieves, so it will cost you a lot of money if you stay in an inn.」(Maitena)
「Yeah, but… I’m a commoner.」(Sheila)

Certainly, it’s much safer to stay here.
As a person who has experience of being kidnapped, I can say for sure that staying in the city is not safe especially when we know those criminals are around.
「Ugh… Alright, I understand. Maitena-san, I’ll be in your care.」(Sheila)
「Good.」(Maitena)
Sheila bowed to Maitena-san politely.
Nice. I won’t feel that lonely with her around. Great job, Maitena-san!
「Everyone, let me take you to your rooms.」(maid)
As we finished deciding, one of the maids approached us and bowed her head. She was going to take the others to their rooms.
「Well then, see you later, Kako.」(Sheila)
「Un.」(Kako)
「See you later-nya.」(Nyat)
Hm? Nyat too?
「Wait, wait, wait! Nyat, where are you going?」(Kako)
「Hm? What’s the matter-nya?」(Nyat)
「You’re my bodyguard! I need you by my side!」(Kako)
Well, I don’t need his protection right now, but I need him to stay with me for my mental health.
I dashed toward him and hugged his belly, trying to stop him.
「Ohh~ How cuuuute~」
「A little girl and a big fluffy living stuffed animal.」
「What a perfect combination!」(??)
Hm? Did someone just talk about us?
I raised my head and looked around, but I only saw the maids and butlers who were standing still with straight backs.
They seem to be good at hiding it, but I’m sure it was them.
「Kako, you hate being called a child but you’re acting like a child-nya.」(Nyat)
「Ugh… I know, but…」(Kako)
「Uhh, Mr. Catto, I think you should go with us.」(Maitena)
「Can I-nya?」(Nyat)
「Yeah. Kako seems a bit restless to go without you. However, please keep everything you hear a secret.」(Maitena)
「Hahh… Can’t be helped-nya. Alright, I’ll go with you-nya.」(Nyat)
「Yaay~!」(Kako)
Thank goodness. I’m glad Maitena-san allows Nyat to come along.
「Well, we’ll be resting then. I’ll see you guys later. Maid-san, please take us to our rooms.」(Izack)
「No, Izack-sama. Pardon us, but we have to take you out of here.」(maid)
「…Huh?」(Izack)
After the maid gave a signal by nodding, two other maids grabbed Izack-san’s arms and pulled him toward the gate.
「W-Wait, wait! Am I being chased away!?」(Izack)
「Yes. It’s our master’s order.」(maid)
「Eeehh!? No waaaay!!」(Izack)
The maids who were dragging Izack-san were surprisingly strong.
Izack-san tried to escape, but they kept holding his arms firmly and pulling him without breaking a sweat.
Seeing their party leader being dragged like a prisoner, Palfi-san waved and smiled teasingly at him while Martz-san couldn’t help but put his palm on his face and sighed.
「Umm… Is Izack-san not welcomed here…?」(Kako)
「Ahaha… Well, my father still doesn’t accept my relationship with Izack. You can say that he hates him, so…」(Maitena)
「I, I see…」(Kako)
I somehow can imagine her father saying, “I’m not going to let some random guy date my precious daughter!”
「Don’t worry about him. I’m sure he’ll be fine. Anyway, let’s go see my parents.」(Maitena)
「Alright.」(Kako)
Nyat and I followed Maitena to the main building while Palfi-san, Martz-san, and Sheila followed the maid to the guest rooms.
