Chapter 4-41 : Talent Identifying Magic (part 3)

「Mylia, I think it’s time to open the registration. Can you use the spell to make my voice louder?」(Chloe)

「Okay.」(Mylia)

After Mylia applied her Loudspeaker Magic on her, Chloe stepped forward and faced the immigrants.

「Everyone, I hope you enjoyed the stew. We will open the registration. People who have finished eating can go to the reception desks. Please note that data such as name, gender, and age cannot be changed once it is registered, so please be careful not to make mistakes. For those who can’t write and read, the receptionists will help you, so you don’t need to worry about that.」(Chloe)

(Uhh, I don’t know about these people, but I would feel nervous if I were told not to make any mistakes…)

「For the sake of the safety of this town, those who have criminal records have to report to the knights before you can register. You need to be evaluated first before you can be the residents of this town. If the knights say that it’s safe to have you here, then you can join the line to register. Please don’t think that you can fool us because you won’t be able to escape Baron Mylia’s keen eye! I suggest you obey the rules if you don’t want problems.」(Chloe)

(Keen eye, huh…? Onee-chan, I don’t think I can tell which people are bad and which ones are good just by looking at them… Well, I can distinguish between delicious food and bad food, though. However, people are not food!)

Mylia raised the corners of her mouth, laughing at the silly thing she was thinking in her mind.

The government of a town doesn’t normally allow people with criminal records to register as new residents without further evaluation in order to maintain the security of their town.

Lavender Town was not an exception. Chloe thought it would be better if they selected the people who could live in the Atwood Territory properly.

As soon as Chloe announced the opening of registration, the immigrants who had finished eating started queuing in front of the reception desks.

As Chloe told, the people who had criminal records went to the knights. Some of them looked as scary as Aaron, but some others looked like good people who seemed to have regretted their actions. However, as a matter of course, no one knows their true nature.

By the way, Mylia had already prepared a residential area for the immigrants to live in.

She built hundreds of houses with the help of the townspeople. She also purchased abandoned cheap houses in the royal capital and stored them in her magic bag in case there were not enough houses for everyone.

After the immigrants finished the registration, the receptionists would tell them where they would live. They were surprised to find that they already had a home.

It seemed that they were planning to camp outside for the time being while building their own house little by little.

They were happy to get houses for free, but some people refused because they wanted to build their own houses.

(Aahh… I’m kinda sleepy… I have nothing to do…)

While still awkwardly sitting in the bizarre-looking chair, Mylia watched the immigrants completing the registration at the reception desks.

Most of them came as big families. The children they brought waved at Mylia when they saw her. Mylia then waved back and smiled at them.

As for the adults, they bowed at her as soon as they noticed her gaze.

Seeing adults bowing at her, Mylia couldn’t help but bow as well.

「Mylia, you’re the lord here. You shouldn’t lower your head to people so casually like that.」(Chloe)

「O, Okay…」(Mylia)

Mylia was Japanese, so it was hard for her not to be polite toward older people.

(… Hahh… I wonder how much longer I have to sit in this weird chair… We have prepared thirty reception desks here, but there are too many people. It’s not enough at all. Well, we don’t have many people who have the academic ability to work as receptionists in this town, so it can’t be helped. I think I will be stuck in this chair for a while…)

「By the way, Onee-chan, what are we going to do after all of them complete the registration?」(Mylia)

「We are going to open recruitment for people who want to work for us. We need more manpower to accelerate the development of this town after all.」(Chloe)

「I see. Now that you mention it, I promised Josephine-san to recruit more people to build the cathedral.」(Mylia)

Mylia glanced at the church while saying that.

By the way, Josephine returned to the church to help the priest since a lot of people came to pray.

As for Bonnie, she was standing by the reception desks in case the receptionists needed her help register the immigrants.

Therefore, there were only Mylia, Chloe, and Leaf at the center of the venue.

Chloe was sitting in a simple chair that Mylia took out from her magic bag, and Leaf was standing while eating World Tree leaves next to Mylia.

「We need more carpenters, lumberjacks, and heavy laborers to build roads and buildings. We also need people who can do office work, especially those who can do math.」(Chloe)

「Onee-chan, we also need people who can cook to work at the restaurants we will build in the future! We need people who can take care of the farm too!」(Mylia)

「Fufu. You always think about food, but yeah, you’re right. Other than that, I think we need to build our own army of soldiers to maintain the peace of our territory, so we need people who can fight.」(Chloe)

「The Atwood Army, huh…?」(Mylia)

「People might think that this territory is safe because you, the rumored Dragon Slayer, are protecting it, but it’s best to have an army to fight for you. You can’t fight all by yourself all the time, right?」(Chloe)

「Hmm… You’re right. My job would be easier if we had an army.」(Mylia)

「Right? Hahh… I think I’ll get even busier. Recruiting people to do important jobs is not easy after all.」(Chloe)

「Is that so?」(Mylia)

「First of all, not many people in this kingdom care about what kind of profession they have. All they care about is to live in peace. Moreover, many people have jobs that don’t match their talents because they are unaware of their talents to begin with. For example, people who can read, write, and do math work as farmers which is a job that doesn’t require those skills. Don’t you think it’s a waste of talent?」(Chloe)

「I see.」(Mylia)

「Aa-ahh… It would be so much easier if I could somehow tell someone’s talent by just looking at them.」(Chloe)

(Hmm… The ability to tell someone’s talent, huh? I wonder if I can create some kind of appraising-type spell that allows me to do that…)

Because she had too much free time, she thought of creating a new spell that might help her sister recruit talented people.

(But… Talent, huh…? I wonder what exactly ‘talent’ is…)

  1. using appraisal to find talent. It seems similar to the on going anime: Tensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru
