Chapter 2-3 : Scrap Iron (part 3)

「Nya nya~… That was some good dinner-nya. I’m satisfied-nya~」(Nyat)

Having a full stomach, Nyat lay down on the bed with his limbs spread out.

「Good for you. Now it’s time for the long-awaited experiment!」(Kako)

I sat down on the floor and took out the box of scrap iron from my magic bag.

「If I’m not mistaken, Sheila said that the top layer was decent-quality iron ores, and the shop covered the low-quality ones and the scrap iron on the bottom with that. Hmm… I can’t tell which one is decent and which one is low-quality just by looking at them. Unless you’re a blacksmith, I don’t think you can’t tell the difference.」(Kako)

I wanted to appraise them, but I can only appraise the same type of item that I have used my Synthesize Skill on.

Since I have never used my skill on iron ore or scrap iron, I took a few of them from the box and synthesized them with my skill.

After that, I took a piece of the iron ore from the top layer and another one from the middle layer.

I held the one from the top layer in my left hand, and the one from the middle layer in my right hand, and then appraised it.

Right after, two half-translucent notice boards appeared above both of my hands.

According to the notice boards, the one in my left hand was the decent one, and the one in my right hand was the low-quality one. It seemed that what Sheila said was true that the shop tricked her.

They put the lowest-quality iron ores and scrap iron on the bottom, the low-quality iron ores in the middle, and the decent ones on the top.

I heard everything from Sheila, but after I actually checked it myself, I realized how terrible that shop was.

Selling trash covered with decent goods is totally a scam.

Sheila said that they might have been told by her terrible seniors to sell her this trash, but even so, they still can’t do this as a shop who has a reputation in this village.

I can’t forgive them as a fellow merchant. It makes me want to punish that shop, but… I wonder what I can do…

Anyway, I think I will try merging the whole thing in this box for now, and let’s see how much highest-quality iron ores I can get.

I put my hands on top of the box and activated my Synthesis Skill with the batch function.

「Batch Function ONー Synthesizing until it reaches the highest quality possibleー Synthesis!」(Kako)

Thousands of pieces of iron ores and scrap iron in the box shone and merged into a few pieces.

As a result, I gotー

〈Top Quality Iron Ore : The highest quality iron can be extracted when refined.〉

This batch function is really convenient. I don’t have to synthesize them one by one. But…

「Is this… all I got…?」(Kako)

After synthesizing the iron in the entire box, I only got a few pieces of top-quality iron ore and several pieces of remaining low-quality iron ores and scrap iron which were not enough to be synthesized into a piece of top-quality iron ore.

「I don’t think it’s even enough to make a small knife…」(Kako)

Well, most of them were low-quality ores and scrap iron, so it’s only natural that I only get a small amount of top-quality ores from them.

「Anyway, next, I’m going to take a look at the daggers I bought today.」(Kako)

I took out the daggers I bought from the weapon shop I visited this noon. Most of them were cheap since they were made by blacksmith apprentices, so I bought many of them.

After lining up the daggers on the floor, I picked two that looked poor in quality but had different shapes.

「Alright. Let’s start with these two. Synthesis!」(Kako)

I appraised the result and I gotー

〈Normal Quality Dagger : It has a shorter blade than other daggers, but it’s light and easy to use. It’s perfect for skinning animals.〉

「Since the result is a normal-quality dagger, then the two daggers I picked must had been low-quality ones. Hmm… Rather than a dagger, it looks like an outdoor knife… Alright, next!」(Kako)

Just like before, I took two daggers, but I just wanted to appraise them this time.

〈Highly Poor Quality Dagger : It was made by an apprentice who only learned blacksmithing for a week. It will break quickly if you use it in combat.〉

〈Decent Quality Dagger : It was made by a senior apprentice. It’s slightly sharper than the other daggers made by apprentices.〉

「This one is very bad, but this one is not so bad. Looks like we have a winner here. Alright, next… I think I’m going to appraise this one!」(Kako)

I took the dagger that caught my attention in the shop.

That’s right. The one I found in a wooden box next to the counter when I was about to pay. The dagger that made me think, “This is the one!”

「It looks like a normal dagger, but… Let’s see what kind of dagger you are! Appraise!」(Kako)

〈High Quality Dagger : It was made by a talented apprentice. It’s much sharper and more durable than the other daggers made by apprentices.〉

「Whoaa! The previous dagger is good, but it’s nothing compared to this one! This dagger is an obvious winner here! I think I should remember this mark!」(Kako)

I took a closer look at it and memorized the engraving pattern on its handle just in case so that I could easily find other equipment made by the same person.

「It’s getting interesting! Next!」(Kako)

I kept appraising and synthesizing the daggers lined on the floor.

While doing that, I noticed something.

When I synthesize two or more daggers of different sizes and shapes, the result will always inherit the shape of the one I choose first.

For example, if I chose a thirty-centimeter curved dagger and then I chose a fifteen-centimeter straight dagger. The result would have the exact same shape and size as the thirty-centimeter curved one.

It reminds me of when I synthesized the magic dagger I got from Maitena-san with a mithril dagger I bought at Keema Shop to improve its quality.

Back then, I chose the magic dagger I got from Maitena-san first, so it kept its shape. If I chose the mithril dagger first, then I would have lost Maitena-san’s magic dagger forever. That would have been really bad.

I wonder why the goddess didn’t write this important thing on the skill description. Did she forget to add it?

Well, she barely explained anything in the description though…

I bet she’s a bit clumsy.

「Anyway, I think I’m going to merge all the remaining daggers at once!」(Kako)

Most of them were of low quality anyway, so I think it would be fast if I batch-synthesized them all.

First, I took the high-quality dagger that caught my eye because I wanted to keep its shape, and then I merged it with the remaining daggers.

「Batch Function Onー Synthesis!」(Kako)

And I gotー

〈Top Quality Dagger : The highest quality dagger that could be made by blacksmith apprentices. Its quality is much better than most daggers made by professionals.〉

Top-quality daggers that could be made by apprentices, huh?

If there really is an apprentice who can make a dagger of this quality, then they must be a genius.

By the way, that was not the only thing I got. I actually got two daggers. The other one was of high quality.

I think I will keep the top-quality one and sell the high-quality one later.

「Ahh~ That was a fun experiment. But…」(Kako)

This is not enough… I want more!

It’s night already but I think some shops are still open. I think I will buy other equipment now and begin the second round of the experiment!

「Nyat, let’s go buy more equipment!」(Kako)

「Nyaooo…」(Nyat)

「Nyat?」(Kako)

「Nyaooo… Nyaooo…」(Nyat)

He’s sleeping.

「Nyat, wake up!」(Kako)

I put my hands on Nyat’s stomach and shook him, trying to wake him up.

Howeverー

「ーUgh! This is bad! I must resist it! But…」(Kako)

Nyat’s fur was so warm and fluffy that I couldn’t resist but to put my head on his stomach and hug him as if my entire body was being sucked.

「Dammit, Nyat…! How… could… you……….. zzZzzzZzzzz….」(Kako)

Unable to resist the fluffiness, I closed my eyes and went to the dream world.
