Chapter 394 : Mark VS Kobold Warrior
ーGRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!
After letting out the ear-tearing howl as if signaling that it would begin the slaughter, the twin-headed special variant kobold charged toward the boy, Mark.
It was poking its two bright red tongues out its two mouths and raising its huge axe while running.
Even though I was sitting far away from it, it looked so intimidating that it made my skin crawl. I couldn’t imagine what if I were in that boy’s position.
However, the boy stayed calm. He stretched his right hand forward and spoke loudly.
「Diadora, I’m borrowing your mana!」(Mark)
I don’t know what he means by “borrowing your mana,” but the pale girl next to me nodded silently as if replying to him even though he couldn’t see it.
「Earthbind!」(Mark)
He then cast some kind of spell, and suddenly, the trees around the monster began to rustle and sway on their own even though there was no wind.
Soon after, tree vines suddenly came out of the soil right under the monster’s feet. They grew rapidly at an abnormal speed and began entangling themselves around the monster’s arms, legs, and torso, stopping it from charging.
The monster looked so annoyed. It was trying to break free, but the thick and sturdy vines locked its movements completely.
「Oh! He got the bastard!」(Weikel)
「Whoa…」(Luard)
Weikel clenched his fist and cheered as I was flabbergasted by what I was seeing.
「I’ve only taught him once… But he already mastered it… That’s Mark for you…」(Diadora)
The pale girl muttered to herself.
I wonder what she meant by “taught him.” Did she… teach him that spell…?
No, there’s no way… right…?
ーGRAAAAA!!
While trying to break free, the monster howled and opened its mouths wide.
We thought the boy had successfully restrained it, but the monster spat out flames from both of its mouths, burning the vines entangling its body and the trees nearby.
Normally, wood doesn’t burn easily, but the monster’s fiery breath turned the vines into charcoal in just a few seconds. It must be a hundred times hotter than normal fire.
「What the hell!? I know it’s a special variant, but I’ve never heard of a kobold that can spit fire!」(Weikel)
I was as shocked as Weikel.
When I was younger, I heard about fire-breathing dragons from an adventurer, and that was what gave me the idea to name my gang “The Inferno Flame Dragon”, but I’ve never expected to see a kobold breathing fire like a dragon.
After all the vines had turned into charcoal, the monster was able to break free easily. It was glaring menacingly at the boy.
However, even in such an extraordinary situation, the boy stayed calm and muttered softly.
「Aa-ah… Look what you’ve done. You’re going to burn the entire forest.」(Mark)
After saying that so casually, as if scolding a child playing with fire, the boy stretched both his arms up.
「Water Ball!」(Mark)
He created a huge mass of water above him with magic and threw it at the burning trees.
Immediately, he created another one, and another one. He kept repeating it, and he also threw some water balls at the monster to push it away, preventing it from attacking him while he was dealing with the fire before it spread further.
It wasn’t long until the scorching fire was completely extinguished. The surrounding area was wet and full of steam, but the forest was saved.
「Phew…」(Mark)
Seeing the forest was no longer in danger, the boy relaxed his shoulders. However, he still had to deal with the monster.
The water balls only pushed it several meters away from the boy. They didn’t do much damage to it.
GRRRR…!
The monster looked even angrier now. It walked forward a bit sluggishly, probably because its entire body was wet and the water made its fur heavy.
It picked up a huge rock nearby and threw it at the boy.
「You really like throwing rocks, huh? Me too, actually. Stone Bullet!」(Mark)
ーBLAST!
I don’t know what happened, but the huge rock suddenly shattered into pieces before it reached the boy.
Did he just block it?
No… It wouldn’t blast into pieces like that if he simply blocked it.
My average, normal human eyes didn’t catch it, but I’m pretty sure he shot something. Something so powerful that it easily shattered a huge rock into pieces.
「I was planning to try tree spirit magic more, but since you can spit out fire, I don’t think it will work. Oh, well. I guess I’ll just end it now. Fly!」(Mark)
After muttering to himself, he… flew into the sky!?
「He can fly!?」(Luard)
「Wow! That looks fun!」(Weikel)
「Weikel-san, he’s fighting, not having fun!」(Delica)
「Haha, I know, I know.」(Weikel)
I don’t know much about magic, but a magician adventurer once told me about a spell that allows you to float in the air. If I’m not mistaken, it’s called Levitation Magic.
However, you can only float up and down with that spell, and that boy, Mark, he’s soaring through the sky and flying around like a bird.
「Hey, ugly twin-head! Over here!」(Mark)
He was luring the monster.
He said he was going to end it. I don’t know how, but he’s probably going to do something big and doesn’t want us to get caught in it.
「He’s still thinking about our safety even in the middle of a fight. Mad respect!」(Weikel)
Weikel muttered while looking at the boy up in the sky.
He seems to respect him a lot. I thought there was something wrong with this dude at first since he’s a grown man, and a grown man respecting a kid is weird, but now, I can understand why.
Glaring at the boy in the sky, the monster picked up another big rock and threw it at him, but the boy easily dodged it in the air.
「That’s all you can do? I was surprised when you spit out fire, but looks like you can’t grow wings and fly, huh? That’s too bad. Stone Lance!」(Mark)
The boy raised his right hand up and created a lance like those wielded by knights. As he lowered his hand, the lance flew toward the monster below.
However, the monster managed to deflect it with its axe.
「Well, I know it won’t kill you. But how about this one? Stone Lance… BARRAGE!」(Mark)
This time, he raised both his arms toward the sky and created not just one, but many, many lances.
I don’t know where the hell those lances came from, but they are floating in the air and are pointing downward at the monster.
「Would you look at that!」(Weikel)
「Unbelievable…」(Luard)
「Mark…」(Delica)
He lowered his arms, and then… the lances started pouring down like rain.
The monster was trying its hardest to dodge them. It moved around while swinging its axe, but the heavy wet fur and the muddy ground caused by the large amount of water earlier slowed it down greatly.
As a result, it ran out of stamina and could no longer dodge.
One lance pierced through its shoulder and another one right in its stomach.
It didn’t stop. The lances kept coming down, piercing through its chest, legs, arms, waist, putting holes all over its body.
ーGRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!
It let out a terrifying scream of agony that sent shivers down my spine.
The cry of the monster, along with the sound of lances piercing its flesh and the ground, continued to be heard until eventually it fell silent.
