Chapter 1-40 : PVP Event

 

A few days after Levy and I defeated the Sea Serpents near the port city, we went to Lake Clar to visit our mollusca friends.

「Hello, Squidspider-san, it’s been a while.」(Alice)

「Kyu!」(Levy)

As Levy and I approached the lake, the Squidspider came out and greeted us by waving its tentacle.

「The other day, we caught a lot of fish. Do you want to eat with us? You can call your friends, and let’s eat together!」(Alice)

It replied with a nod and went back into the lake. Not long after, it returned with its friends.

About ten Squidspiders came out of the lake altogether and gathered in front of me. Seems like they can’t wait to eat the fish I brought.

「You guys are lake creatures, but you can eat ocean fish, right?」(Alice)

They nodded in unison in response.

Looks like they have no problem eating ocean fish. They may be lake creatures, but they are monsters after all.

Actually, the reason I came here aside from sharing the fish with these little fellas is to improve my【Cooking】Skill. It’s currently still level 1, and I think it’s about time to level it up so I can cook delicious food myself sooner.

I plan to make campfire-style grilled fish since it’s one of the easiest fish dishes to make.

First, I need to clean the fish. I took out a wooden basin from my【Storage】and put all the fish in it. I then took out a knife and a wooden cutting board and started gutting the fish one by one.

Levy nodded and used their【Crimson Magic】Skill to spit out a fire breath at the firewood.

As the firewood started to burn, I took a few fish and stabbed them with twigs I collected along with the firewood in the forest on the way here. After that, I placed the skewered fish on the ground over the fire and then sprinkled some salt on them.

By the way, I bought the kitchen knife from a blacksmith in Ijard Town. As for the wooden basin and the cutting board, I asked Ruka to make them for me since she learned【Woodworking】Skill. She learned it to make arrows, but she can also make other things from wood.

I’m not sure if Squidspiders eat cooked food, so the grilled ones are for me and Levy. I plan to make sashimi for the Squidspiders.

While waiting for the skewered fish to cook, I started making sashimi by cutting the remaining fish into thin slices. The Squidspiders were watching me with interest as I cut the fish for them.

While making the sashimi for the Squidspiders, I didn’t forget to flip our skewered fish so that they were cooked evenly.

Just when I finished making the sashimi, the fish I was grilling on the skewers was cooked.

I put the cutting board with the sashimi in front of the Squidspiders and then grabbed one of the skewered grilled fish.

「Alright, guys. Let’s eat!」(Alice)

「Kyuu~!」(Levy)

The Squidspiders approached the cutting board and started taking the sashimi with their tentacles. They then slowly ate the sashimi one slice after another with their small mouths. Meanwhile, Levy wrapped the tips of their tail on one of the grilled fish and ate it.

I also took a bite of my grilled fish as I watched them eat.

「Hmm… I see…」(Alice)

It’s not as good as the grilled fish I ate at the food stall in the port town, probably because the level of my【Cooking】Skill is low. Well, it’s not bad. It tastes okay, but it’s far from enough to satisfy me.

Thinking that I really have to level up my【Cooking】Skill, I decided to stay and continue cooking for a while.

It seems that there will be a fighting event held in two weeks to welcome new players.

I chose the table in the corner of the room by the window, and then Ruka and I sat facing each other.

That’s right. I’m not the only one with a unique skill. I remember the leader of the Silver Wing Brigade had a unique skill too. He used it to stun the wolf boss monster in the raid.

I’m sure there are many players who have much more powerful unique skills than mine in this game.

While we were talking, Marl-san came with two plates of honey toast. She put them on our table and left with a smile.

I’m still full after eating a huge amount of grilled fish, but there’s always a space in my stomach for dessert. Besides, I won’t get fat even though I eat so much food in this game, so it’s totally fine.

「Anyway, let’s eat for now.」(Alice)

「Un.」(Ruka)

I was kinda worried about the fighting event that I couldn’t enjoy my honey toast to the fullest, but Marl-san’s bread was delicious as always.

Ruka and I spent our time a bit longer in the shop talking about the event before we parted ways.
